I was looking for the voting options of "OP is drunk"

Short answer, OP is pretty much spot on.

I was Enlisted Infantry and later commissioned and went Signal, so take that for what it is. My son, this past year finished Infantry BOLC at the "Maneuver Center of Excellence", so his perspective is that Armor officers are fat slugs, and whine like little bitches when they're outside when it's cold and wet. My son is the epitome of the Infantry cockiness of being at the tip of the spear and every other MOS is in direct support, creating effects, or creating more paperwork...

Old school Army (possibly in the Marines as well), branches were broken into three categories: Combat Arms, Combat Support, and Combat Service Support. There were too many hurt feelings, so they expanded those groups to the current categories:

Current Branch Groupings:

Maneuver, Fires, and Effects:
Air Defense Artillery
Armor
Aviation
Cavalry Scout
Chemical
Engineers
Infantry
Field Artillery
Military Police
Psychological Operations
Special Forces

Operations Support:
Civil Affairs
Cyber
Electronic Warfare
Military Intelligence
Public Affairs
Signal

Force Sustainment:
Adjutant General
Army Music
Chaplain
Financial Management
Judge Advocate General
Medical
Ordnance
Transportation
Quartermaster

These days, you're combat arms if your branch can kill the enemy; you're Infantry if you can look them in the eye before terminating them. However, as I joked with my combat arms peers after turning Signal, I told those knuckle-dragging, bullet-eating, mud-slinging Neanderthal bitches...you can't talk about me, but you can't talk without me

Quite honestly, RETRANS was the reason I considered moving jumping from Infantry to Signal. Dudes on a hilltop with a great view, BBQ grill with delicious smelling BBQ chicken and steak, big ice cooler with some cold beverages, lawn chairs to get a tan when the sun came out, autonomy-nobody giving them shit (as long as comms were up), pogy-bait, a big box of porn mags, functional Special Forces attire options (doo rags on heads)...damn, Sarg, sign me the fuck up!

I can't speak for the Marines, however, I've worked with enough to know that they all want to be bullet catchers even if their MOS isn't...

That is mortuary affairs and laundry and bath specialists.

I was the Drill SGT for the Vice President of Goldman Sachs. His name was Kevin Mincio.

He chose Infantry vs other MOS's, dude left a $300k a year job to be a Infantrymen.

He not only was a great soldier, he taught me MS access and helped us build our training data bases etc.

Wow

Women integrating into Army’s final infantry, armor units
First Idaho female infantry officer
WASHINGTON -- The Army will integrate female infantry and armor Soldiers into its final nine brigade combat teams this year as it modifies a requirement to have at least two female leaders in each company with junior enlisted women.

“We’ve had women in the infantry and armor occupations now for three years,” said Maj. Melissa Comiskey, chief of command policy, Army G-1. Integrating women into combat units has “changed the culture,” she added. “It’s not as different as it was three years ago when the Army first implemented the integration plan.”

When the integration began, a “leaders first” policy required two female officers or NCOs of the same military occupational specialty to be in each company that accepted women straight from initial-entry training.

That rule was modified last year so that only one female infantry or armor leader needed to be in each company, along with another woman of any MOS -- such as a supply sergeant or signal NCO.

Now the rule has been further adjusted with a change to the Army Gender Integration Plan that will require only one female officer or NCO to be in companies that accept junior enlisted women.

Define over ran? The enemy was not successful. They were in the wire but they fought and took their cop back.

That was the movie the outpost. B TRP 3-61 Cav was the unit.

SSG rom was both a 19K and 19D
SSG Carter was a 19D

Story time. So, I was an asshole to the commo guys when I was mechanized. We would use our tracks and cut their wires all the time if they weren't over the roads...that shit came back to bite me in the ass.

A good friend of mine was an Armor Platoon Leader in 3rd Battalion, 73rd Armor Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; good'ol Airborne Sheridan tanks! They had the external phone to talk to the Airborne crunchie platoon leaders and he would always fuck with them. Once the PL had the phone, he would speed up and watch the PL struggle to keep up; slow down, speed up, rinse repeat. He was truly an asshole...worthy of his combat arms badge

Made me laugh every time.

I have a somewhat unique perspective, as I was originally an 11B1OC2-a junior enlisted leg Infantryman who carried around an M47 Dragon missile- and then went on to be a 13F2O - an Artillery Forward Observer. As such, I can see things from both sides of the argument. There's a lot of truth to the argument that the Infantry is charged with taking and holding ground and everyone else in the military is charged with helping them accomplish that mission. But there is also truth to the argument that the Infantry only exists to get the Forward Observer to the next hill.

The full truth is that nobody is getting shit done without the rest of the team.

That is so hilariously accurate.

You can almost predict a tanker or an artillery guy by stereotype. The infantry draws a wide gamut, every extreme.
