John Carpenter has made some amazing movies over his career. Assault on Precinct 13,
Halloween, Escape From NY, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, the list goes on.
I submit to you that the best just might be They Live, starring Roddy Piper (former WWF star).

The plot:  A drifter named Nada (Piper) comes to LA looking for work. He winds up finding out aliens and a cabal of the
rich and powerful have teamed up to enlsave humanity through broadcasted signals and subliminal messages. The aliens
are able to disguise themselves as people, but Piper stumbles on some ordinary looking sunglasses that allows him
to see past their disguises as well as those that cloak their subliminal messages.

Epicness ensues, inlcuding a legendary street brawl between Nada and his buddy Frank (played by Keith David) that took 3 weeks to rehearse.

It was reportedly inspired by a short story authored by Ray Nelson. Audio version of it here:

"8 O'clock In The Morning" AudioDrama -"They Live"

There is no doubt it has a message relevant to 2022.

TLDR: If you've never seen They Live (1988, John Carpenter) get on it ASAP. If you have seen it, watch it again

The parallels are interesting, but I guarantee you, Carpenter would deny them. That film was a swipe at Capitalism and Republicans.
Kind of like "V For Vendetta". We might see parallels to the Left, but Alan Moore meant it as an attack on the Right.

Yep, Classic Cult Flick! Rowdy Roddy Piper was great, as was  Keith David.

I agree, it was made in response to the "me" decade, and goes back to the ad men of the 50's and 60's.

Like it or not, conservatives drove that kind of consumerism.

What I find interesting is is how the poles have seemed to shift since the middle of the last century.

The left wanted less government, more freedom for people, and said as much. Seems like it's the other way around now.

Yeah IMO a straight shot at marketing and consumerism but I think we can agree it rings a slightly different tone in 2022. Either way, great movie and on the list of ones ya gotta watch.

They said that, mostly the useful idiots; but what they really wanted was to subvert institutions and degrade our society in order to bring about leftist totalitarianism.

I think what happened was progressives and liberals all kind of turned into the same thing, or rather their goals became intertwined.

Liberals realized that using progressive tactics they can use tax payer money to try to force everyone to play by the rules...not just companies and institutions. Progressives saw it working so they just went along for the ride.

Meanwhile, the anarchists, who used to be very left wing, shifted towards the right side of the aisle and now still want less government, but less of our current government, which favors the left.

I love that movie but what the hell was the point of the future beings communicating through sleep?
Watched the movie a dozen times and still not sure what the point was.
I know the girl is the person coming through the door at the end and i guess she was possed by the evil.

I recently rewatched it.

Yes, more relevant than ever. It's gotten to an interesting point, the mind control signal appears to still be functioning. But there's no ignoring who the baby eating reptilian entities are nowadays.

Well...

Unless you are a good little person who always believes exactly what the mainstream media tells you. Even the stuff that contradicts the other stuff.

That's the thing about telling a good story...exposing evil is part of it.
That's one reason modern movies suck so bad...thw writers have to create convoluted ideas where nothing can be absolutely true.

Because modern movies are usually trying to push some retarded agenda that is either counter to fact or morally wrong.
