I find it fascinating and scary at the same time that close to 50% of the human population doesn't have an internal monologue and even some of those, furthermore, suffer from Aphantasia. Meaning they don't have a "mind's eye" and can't visualize their thoughts either. They can only think in terms of urges and impulses. They can't self-debate or even visualize what they want/think of.
I have an internal monologue and a mind's eye. I constantly visualize and internally verbalize my thoughts. Just thinking about not being able to do such a thing terrifies me but fascinates me too. I'm curious how the other side lives. How do they do something as simple as think of what to write, or what to wear? How to they philosophize and theorize? How do they daydream? How do they remember faces, songs, film, literature? Honestly, if I couldn't do either, I'd probably go insane. |

I kinda talk and mumble to myself at work. (Stop laughing) So it probably drives my co-workers nuts. But I work 12 hour rotating shifts. And I feel exhausted all the time. So talking to myself is how I keep my train of thought. However, this is how I rationalize it. I work with hydrocarbons above their auto-ignition temperature. All they need to do is get to fresh air and they automatically catch on fire. Then there is hydrogen sulfide gas. Accidentally inhale that stuff and it will kill you. |

I can visualize things to an extent. I am bipolar, have ADHD, and am high functioning autistic. Just yesterday, I took two 1/4 parts of a caffeine pill a bit too close to each other, my internal voice was off the rails for awhile, way too loud, talking way too fast, and saying a decent amount of profanity. To make things more interesting, I was going to a Russian congregation, where everything is in Russian, which changes my internal voice's language to Russian all the time, some days more than others. My inner voice will sometimes spontaneously say something, or even a few sentences in Russian, but a lot of times I make a slight conscious effort to switch to it.
I never could paint or draw, I don't know why, part of it is probably the inherent physical clumsiness often associated with people that are on the autism spectrum, but I think part of it may be I can't really strongly visualize things in my mind, and I have some visuo-spacial issues most likely too. I know that as far back as kindergarten, I always had trouble with doing things with my hands and eyes, assignments that involved cutting paper, pasting things onto it, things like that. |

I'd guess 85% of the population is no smarter than an animal in terms of controlling themselves and being able to reason.
That's why AI is terrifying. It will eventually get to the level of a highly intelligent mind, but it won't ever be capable or true creativity, invention, or existential observation. The mind is simply a collection of experiences, either positive or negative, that leave an impression. Beings then try to repeat or not repeat the experience, which is a desire. The cycle repeats endlessly until it becomes so tiresome that people begin to question "why" even do it at all (existential crisis). Then it takes a long time (generally) to be able to observe the mind and realize that our existence is not the mind (DeCartes was completely backwards), but the substrate beyond those thoughts. The nature of Truth or "Perennial Wisdom" as it's been called goes even deeper. The "soul" (or Consciousness or Self, whatever you want to call it) is what is actually existing and observing the ego/mind (what people think/feel "they" are- their sense of "I") The wild part is "I" doesn't even exist outside of memories that are long gone, or desires that have never happened. |

Who needs a mind's eye when all of your information is fed to you through a visual medium? Being able to visualize information is a skill that you develop because you didn't have access to the visual data in the first place, but that is completely (or almost completely) unnecessary today.
