I see people wearing the Utilikilts. That's the one that people usually wear. A lot of outdoors type people wear them for some reason. Nobody thinks anything of it.

there is never a question. kilts are ALWAYS appropriate.
just make sure you're fitted correctly. I saw a guy at the gun show a few weeks ago whose kilt was a good two inches ABOVE HIS KNEE. ugh. wear it right or don't wear it at all. |

For a guy to wear a skirt called a "kilt" is manly and cool, but to wear a skirt called a "Japanese schoolgirl outfit" is weird and creepy.

Utilikilts??? No... those are psuedo-kilts at best.
If you're going to wear a kilt, get a formal kilt, measured for you. It will run from your navel to the top of your knees. When I bought mine, it was from Ben Wyvie kilt makers, in Inverness. The sum total of their industry was a cupla ladies, sitting in rocking chairs, hand stitching. That and one guy to get the large bolts of material off the walls. Quality tells... |

But wear them right. And if you have some Scots ancestry, find out what clan you're descended from, and get one made with your clan's coat of arms. |

William Wallace didn't wear a kilt, despite what Mel Gibson would have you believe. Kilts date from the 16th century, William Wallace lived well before then, dying in 1305, the 14th century. William Wallace wore pants. |
