That is what I was learning towards as well.

We'll find out next June.

Unless I'm wrong, no 18's have dual controls, so while the IP could coach him, he couldn't do anything but pull the plug if shit went sideways.

Tom doesn't own that plane, the taxpayers do.

Seriously, how'd he manage to get in the front seat?

Pretty good theory.  There were some set photos released a while ago that seemed to show them filming Maverick being shotdown and evading.

Interesting comment...

"In a new interview with Collider, Hamm has also been hyping the film’s reportedly complex special effects. “They’re using some technology on this that is never before seen,” he said. “We’re shooting the movie in, I think, 6K. So it’s incredibly hi-def. The aerial footage is mind-blowing. And it’s mostly practical. There’s not a lot of CG. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs.”

agreed. he is unbelievable in every miscast 'macho' role he's had. he just seems a wimp (that is a euphemism for the reproductive organ he most closely represents).

I’m beginning to think Tom Cruise only makes these movies so he can do the cool stuff while filming.

The movie might indeed suck but the action shots look spectacular!

Yes the FRS has dual control jets. Any two seat F18 can be configured with controls in the back

He's flying it the same as I've flown an F-16.  As in, not without adult supervision.

I was actually wondering if he's actually flying because I know he does all his own stunts and knows how to fly helicopters.

Despite making fun of Top Gun it's actually one of my favorite movies and I'll watch it whenever it's on. I'm probably going to see this movie.

Looks like it'll suck.

Hell, half the scenes in the trailer look like they were just rehashing the SAME scenes from the original.

Also, obligatory female fighter pilot named "Phoenix", for the SJW crowd.

ETA: F-14 at the end was definitely CGI.

I’m putting money on that Tom Cruise doesn’t really make bad movies. The guys been in 50 movies not every one of them can be an 11 out of 10. This movie will be great!

Agree.

As much as I liked the footage in Top Gun though, I thought is was better in Final Countdown.

Final Countdown could afford sweet first act scenes by cheating us out of an epic finale battle though.

Good thing he didn't need to punch out of that thing. Don't think your shoulder harness is suppose to be down over the arms.

Surprised he wouldn't float out of the seat during maneuvers.
