Season 1 was/is the best single season of any show ever IMHO. Season 2 was shit. I started 3, but didn’t finish it.

I always recommend anyone new to True Detective to watch the seasons in reverse, starting with Season 3. |

I was an extra on Season 3, it was exhausting miserable work watching overpaid celebrities screw up their lines and places, time after time after time. Set overtime was $12 an hour, food was shit. No wonder they couldn’t produce a good product worth watching, production sucked big time.

I'll watch S1 a couple times a year. Just that enjoyable. I've never been able to finish S2, just can't do it. S3 was closer to form, but not AS good as S1.

Season 1 is the best season of television, ever.
Season 2 is actually pretty enjoyable once you quit taking it literally and realize that all of the main characters are dead already and trapped in a kind of passing purgatory of their own making. No, really. |

Daddario aside, episode 4 of season one is probably my favorite episode of any show ever. Agree with everyone above, Season One was damn near perfect. I liked aspects of season two, but it was disjointed and there was really no reason to have the gay CHP dude in there. Season Three was a little better but still couldn't come anywhere close to Season One. I did like that they had the main character be a former LRRP, since not many folks now are aware of how badass those guys were.

I recently rewatched the entire series. Season two is under rated, I agree with Vince Vaughns surprisingly good performance in a serious role.
I enjoyed season 3 as well. Each season was good for its own reasons and all three stories are somewhat related/connected. |
