Turkey is boring if you suck at cooking it

Agreed. The fam was not happy the wife and I were going to be out of the country today. They were itching for me to smoke the turkey again this year.

Your weakness is strong.

On the other hand, having Elk makes up nearly all of your lost points.

I agree. I’d rather eat a big Asian potluck nowadays.

Turkey is great sliced thin on a club sandwich.

Fried at Thanksgiving it is pretty good.

I just discovered something tonight while eating leftovers....dipping cold turkey in buffalo sauce is pretty good and I think that will become my turkey eating method of choice.

Sous vide and smoke that bitch. Knocked it out of the park with the turkey this year and nobody in my family likes turkey.

My sister/BIL picked up a smoked one today from the local BBQ place.  It was awesome, worth whatever it cost.

I'm over turkey, but my stepmom expects it and she doesn't have a lot of years left. We're putting Thanksgiving off until Saturday; I will cook a turkey on one Weber and a rib roast on the other. I believe there will be tamales; good, more turkey for the stepmom.

I'd kill that pumpkin pie but the rest looks like shit. No offense.

Great food, sun, and plenty of historical sites. Nice beaches too.

Oh, the bird isn’t bad either, especially deep fried.

As long as it’s brined and smoked or fried, it’s good to go!

The best part is the left over gobbler sammiches you can make.

Hoagie roll, Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and whatever else is around on a bun!

This.

Along with making sure not to over-cook it, and turkey is GTG for Turkey day.

Turkey is pretty boring.

I did dry brined (no rinse), bacon wrapped, spatchcock smoked turkey.  Extremely moist turkey.  But at the end of the day, still turkey.

For whatever reason, it’s just boring. I change it up whenever I cook turkey. The best I ever did was a bourbon molasses glaze.  But still it was... turkey.

Brisket, or even pulled pork you can express a lot of different flavors in. Same with a lot of meats.  Thus why there is always disagreements of beans vs no beans, what is real bbq, etc.

But turkey? It’s... still just a turkey.

It's almost cliche to have it at Thanksgiving .

This year we had Elk instead (I work this evening) it was absolutely delicious.

We’ve smoked it, fried it, bought a roaster and done it I. The oven. I don’t care how you do it it blows goats.

I agree it sucks. If it was good at all, we would eat it every day. Not just one day.

It's cliché that someone bitches about turkey on Thanksgiving too.  I have one turkey a year on TG, so no, it doesn't get old.

Barely conscious after the most wonderful Thanksgiving diner. Turkey is so wonderful and complex in taste, texture and flavor I don't know where to begin! Then there is the gravy from the bird, the stuffing as well. I'd bet Turkeys blood is equal parts red, white and blue. Next to the bald eagle I'd say the turkey is the most American of all the birds and certainly the tastiest!

As I recall, it was suggested that the wild Turkey be the national bird, but they went with the bald eagle, instead.

True.
When someone says they are are having BBQ on any other day of the year, you know they aren’t smoking a damn turkey.  If turkey was great, people would cook whole turkeys year around.

I enjoy cooking it. I brine it and roast it in oven, disassemble meat from carcass. Always comes out perfect. But just not a huge fan of Turkey.
