Tried one with 3/4” pipe fittings and 18” pipe nipple. After the cord wrap I think the handle diameter is perfect.

I might consider 1” for the head parts a a 1” to 3/4” reducing bushing

I swung a 22 oz Estwing just like that for 20+ years.

I'm pretty handy with one.

And it would make a devastating, virtually indestructible weapon.

Also did the Spiked Devastator from a phone game Last Day on Earth or something like that

The head is a soup can that the shaft extends through with 1/2” bolts extending into the can nuts on both sides of the can. Then the can filled with cement.

This one is too heavy

A local favorite weapon was an axe handle with a short length of chain on top, and a short bolt w/ locknut and a couple ground-down sharpened washers on the end link.

*Allegedly*

I have a rock hammer. I always thought that it would be a great melee weapon, but I thought the spike end would bury too deep and be hard to remove? Blunt force truama weapons always at the ready....just my .02.

So, trim down, and re-sharpen, though I really don't see it as a problem.

I think I'm just going to build a mace like the one on page one. The rock hammer is going to be used during my retirement career hunting for Alaskan gold....or just hanging on the wall. I haven't decided for sure yet.

I made this at work when I had nothing better to do. The "spiked" ends are out of an alternator I took apart for the copper. They were laying around and I had to do something with 'em.

Could use melted lead

I poured #8 shot in as I poured in the epoxy.  Because mine uses a wooden handle threaded all of the way through and a different piece as a head I didn't need much.  For a wrap I just used some scrap leather I had but I've since unwrapped it and plan to shorten the handle.  Some tennis racket grip tape would work too.

Chingachgook, is that you?

So, the typical T-ball bat is 26” long, and weighs around 16oz. and weighted a little to the handle.

You could drill a hole in the end cap, and pour in 5-6oz of melted lead to give more weight, structure at the business end.

Or, alternately, use something like silicone caulk. Might take a day or two to dry, but the same weight of silicone would fill more of the end, might help manage vibration better, and is must easier to use and common (no smelting, etc…).

A sword with any length requires training. If you don’t know how to use it, it can be as deadly to you as your attacker

I learned that with my Cold Steel cane sword.  I barely missed my shin when I started swinging it.

plus some cheap Aluminum Softball bats I bought on close-out fro Sports Authority for $7 each.

I also have a bunch of cheap OC devices.

I keep them all around as trade fodder and if I ever need to put some kind of weapon into hands I don't necessarily want to give a gun.

However, I have come to believe after watching the ANTIFA riots for the past few years that melee weapons are just about useless. Unless you are really going to practice and become proficient with them it is more likely a mob will take it from you and beat you to death with your own weapon.
