The recon team of which my son was a member had quite a 'weapons library' going back in one of their cans where they operated out of Al Asad. They began hanging them on hooks from walls. They had an early, early ArmaLite AR15, an StG44 and a nice collection of other rare weapons that they had captured. Until their LT found out about it.
This is the fate of all of those weapons:

That isn't an SKS x39 magazine projecting from the bottom of the stock?
And isn't that an SKS retaining pin for the dust cover at the rear of the receiver (it looks like brass in the pic)? |

Don't feel bad. I missed the magazine at first glance as well. The flash kinda blends it in with the background. BTW, good luck with that Grail quest thingy, Galahad.

There are easier ways to get stuff back that are much less likely to get caught than going through the USPS. While I was working customs there I saw a PA-63, a .75 caliber black powder pistol, plenty of 1911s, a few Webleys, Sterlings, etc. |

And it's like an overgrown semi-auto handgun in operation with a reciprocating slide, instead of an internal "bolt". It can be fired one handed like a ginormous auto pistol, or used like a SMG with the stock extended. It's also kind of unique because it has that large compensator built right into the slide, like an extended version of the Kalashnikov "slant-brake". It's also kind of desireable because more like a traditional auto pistol, it's got lots of forged/milled parts, rather than being just a bunch of stampings. I don't have any pictures, but the first company I worked for in Iraq had two "customized" AKMs on the wall of the company headquarters: one anodized gold and one anodized silver with mother of pearl pistol grip and handguards.
I also ran into two foreign contractors in the Green Zone in 2005 who were armed with P90s. |

My brother's MiTT team found an M-79, they were apparently able to get it added to their authorized equipment since it was "lost" US property, it came back with them on the books for their unit. I know he asked me for help finding a firing pin after he got back, I think he finally got one through somebody in Special Forces. He said it was fun when they took it to the range at Campbell :-)
