I guess I should just go with the BCA, I mean, 7.62x39 isn't supposed to be accurate, right?

The one I ordered will go on 10 or 12ft 4x4s.  It’ll only be a 100yrd shot.  Actually, dad killed a buck the other day from a ground blind in the spot the new stand will go.

Do you love it?

The sportsman’s condo comes with a bottom frame that accepts the 4x4s, so slide them in, some screws, and stand it up.  Sounds easy enough.

Raked leaves all day yesterday, then did the final mow of the season.

Mowing was delayed a bit when I found the mower covered in oil from the last time my kid mowed. Somehow he lost the oil cap and mowed the yard with oil spraying everywhere, but didn't notice it. Bought a temp plug and ordered an oil cap from amazon.

I like to store the mower with an empty tank over the winter. Had a bungee cord in my hand to wrap around the handle so it would run without me holding it. Pulled the starter cord and the bungee hooked on the handle and my hand stopped abruptly as the bungee hook stopped my hand from moving when it hooked deeply into my flesh. That smarted a bit.

Hey! My man knows the Fulda Gap (and all it's problems for NATO)

Back in the day the FM100 series on Soviet doctrine stated that 25% of their artillery rounds were expected to be chemical . I used to be the NBC NCO for my platoon, and did a ton of tactics traning and VID training for my platoon and my company. IIRC the prepatory bombardment against a NATO tank company defensive position in the Fulda was 1000 rounds...before any of their tanks even showed up to start shooting

Agreed on the distance gunnery advantage the West had over them overall, but our typical engagement range was expected to be short and sweet in Germany...500 fucking yards

On top of that the Sovs really liked the rolling artillery HE+Smoke barrage right in front of their armored spearhead which basically meant you couldn't effectively shoot until the smoke cleared, so whoever was getting the most attention from them during the initial assault was going to have a bad day.  I also read we were expected to be outnumbered 14 to 1 in the Fulda Gap...so I mostly didn't want to be there and was glad that my unit would have been part of ReForGer and probably not seen the initial opening shots

Sorry, but it looks like AJ was going to have to hold the line til we got there

My old nemesis, the Soviet T72

This was our main enemy during the cold war even though the T80 was in full service and was a better tank (and the same technological generation as the Abrams). We were definitely going to meet the T80 but there were a zillion times more T72s built and they were used by far more countries. The Abrams completely overmatched all versions of the T72 back then

The base tank was easy to identify, but so many versions had explosive reactive armor that eventually it became really hard to tell what model you were looking at

There was even a version called the Dolly Parton, because of those two tig ol bitties on the front of the turret face

https://www.overtdefense.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/T-72B1-Modernized-Nicaragua-17-1.jpg

Add in modernization programs and changes in ERA design, and sometimes you had no fucking idea what you were looking at other than you knew it was Russian

Turret would still pop off if you hit it, export models were crap, doubt the "real" versions were much better.
It was always a crippling flaw due to the autoloader carousel design

The Soviets figured that the T72 was heavily armored enough that its peers could not penetrate the armor from the front, and the advantages of the autoloader were worth the trade off to crew safety. That all changed for the worse when the T72 was capable of being penetrated by our next generation of MBTs. The T64 was the more complicated and advanced precursor to the T72 and so the T72 interited the same problem because it used the T64 style autoloader. You can easily google how many T64s lost their turrets in the Ukrainian war and T72s in the Gulf War

I look at it more from the Chieftain and Challenger perspective then the M60 and M1 perspective but either way armor on armor in the 70's/80's the commies would have been fucked long distance in a fulda gap scenario but raw numbers would have carried them forward and IMO it would have gone chemical first then theater nuclear.

I was never stationed in one of those areas, however, one of my favorite sergeants was in Korea.

His battalion was tasked with holding one intersection for 5 minutes if the Norks every came across the DMZ.

FIVE MINUTES

100 lost per minute.
