A buddy is willing to give me a mannequin for my man cave and I want to deck it out with some OG-107 jungle fatigues and my XM177 clone. Would this be an acceptable rig?

Have been seeing these on e-bay lately, both in sets, and as individual pieces. They look like reasonably faithful repros, but the ones I have seen have all been ChiComm production, just in case that's an issue for you.

I think the first 30 rounders didn't have grenade pouches on them like the ones from the later years. |

Why buy repro M56 gear when the original equipment is still out there? Get the real deal.

When I first enlisted I wore that rig I always just called LBE had M16 mag pouches with grenade holders on side.

Quoted: There were canvas pouches that held four 20rd M16 magazines. They’re relatively uncommon, compared to the M56 Ammunition Pouches that held two M14 mags. https://photos.imageevent.com/willyp/firearmsalbums/uscoltarmalitem16ar15556/m16accessoryitems/magazineammopouches/Pouches%20M56.jpg Early, Late, and M16 View Quote I never saw canvas 20 round M16 pouches before, learn something new everyday. I carried a M14 pouch as a survival kit on my LBE in the 80's. |

I’ve ordered from them twice and both times I got an email stating “durrr- we said it was in stock but it really wasn’t. D’oh! You’re being refunded” |

View Quote Looks like 20 rounder pouches with the black clips are $20 on that ste. |

I wore M-56 stuff up until 2000 or so when we all switched to the new brown gear.

Oh, yeah. Don't forget the lensatic compass!

I was a 1st Cav grunt 69-70 working the Cambodian border area. We only had a few "issue" items as I remember. Just kept hanging a lot of stuff from the ruck frame. We had 20 magazines of ammo, usually in those thin cloth bands that tied around your waist or over your shoulder. Here is a photo of 3 guys in the squad.

We called our issue gear "782 gear" back in cold war times. Everything was canvas and metal from what I recall. It soaked up sweat like a sponge. swet and water would accumulate and soak down through your mag pouches.
But OP may be able to find more options by searching 782 gear; if has not tried that yet. |
|
I've always called/heard the canvas short M16 pouches called M1967 pouches even though they are not nylon. Is there another name?
|
|
Since it’s a CAR-15 you should do a MAC-V-SOG tribute. It would look really cool and give you a lot more freedom in the gear selection.

View Quote That and we carried the Field Transport pack. It was a two piece pack system. When in combat you only wore the top pack. I was there late on and our magazine pouches carried 3, 30 round magazines and two frags. The M-14 pouches we had were single magazine types. Most of our 782 gear was old Korean War stuff. |
