For me,
A bent wing Corsair. I would have 6 50 BMG`s at my disposal. I think that that would be fun to "Play" with. A Hell Cat would be my second choice. If I only had enough disposable cash to buy one of those air craft........................................................... One can only dream. |

I don't want to fly in anything during a shooting war at this point.
Afterwards, I'd like to fly a P-39 Airacobra, because I don't like tail draggers. Particularly when they have 13-1400 hp attached to the prop. Corsair and Bf-109s scare the crap out of me with how ungainly and difficult they must be on the ground. |

I am a fancier of the Grumman products of the period. F6F, followed by the F4F (or the FM-2 variant) for myself.

FPNI, Corsair, USMC…or maybe Navy, but Navy didn’t like them due to carrier ops…

On Father's Day, in Olympia, WA, they have a great airshow. You can pay some $$$$ to go up in these aircraft. I would love to go up in a F-4U Corsair.

P47 Thunderbolt
8 .50 cal brownings Bombs Rockets Extra gas tank “You are free to romp and play” |

Quoted: FPNI, Corsair, USMC…or maybe Navy, but Navy didn’t like them due to carrier ops… View Quote F6F had a better combat record by a significant margin, though the fact that the Corsair was used for bombing much earlier in the war may have something to do with that. The fact that the Hellcat had fewer vices and a typical wartime trained pilot could probably push it harder without it killing him may also have something to do with it. |

European Theater: Spitfire, P51 or P38. FW190, 109B, and definitely a 262
Pacific Theater: F4U, P47 or P38. Zero after the war. Good fighter, but no armor For shits and grins: B25, B17, and maybe a Heinkel HE-111 |
Probably the ones said to be easiest to fly and land, like the Supermarine Spitfire Mk1a, A6M "Zero/Zeke", or the Grumman Wildcat.
Grandpa wrenched on P51's and I've always been kinda fond of them so I'll go with that.
Mustang > Spitfire > Corsair > P38 > Bearcat > Hurricane > Zero > Warhawk
Can't do nazi shit, because... FUGLY. Well, the ME 262 ain't bad. |
P38 nose cannon and 4 50 cals. Also I just love the way it looks
One that won't kill me.
But a Jug strafing with 8 50 cals wouild be a hoot. |
After reading about Claire Chennault's Flying Tigers in China as a child, I would pick the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk.

Quoted: P-38. View Quote I'd be strongly inclined to this one. Did they not have the highest kill ratio of the time? Centrally mounted guns having less issues due to lack of convergence plus the 20mm. Dick Bong had 40 kills, that made him the most successful US fighter pilot to my knowledge. Pretty fuckin impressive. |
From what I've read the F6F Hellcat was pretty forgiving for novices to fly, so probably that. As long as I didn't have to land it on a carrier.
P38. And I know it didn't fly and fight during WWII, but it was developed during the war....the Hawker Sea Fury always did it for me. Fast and it held its own against Mig 15's and that's impressive.
