I bought a 1976 Ford Highboy a few months back with the intention of restoring/updating the truck to make a great daily driver.

The truck I bought out of California was an original truck with 75k miles and spent its life doing farm work.

When it’s hit the pavement again it will have the following-

Powder coated frame
Gen 3 coyote and 10R80 trans
Super duty axles/steering/brakes
4 link front suspension with King coil overs
Skyjacker soft ride rear springs and King shocks
Restomod AC
4.56 gears with 37” tires
Plus all of the other stuff

When I bought the truck-

Where we are at now. 4 link and some of the suspension is fitted. SD steering box is in. Fitted the core support and new radiator. Next is to fit gas tank and redo some crossmembers.

Will update the progress as it happens.

very nice
why not just drop the body/bed on a newer truck frame that already had the drive train/axles you wanted and then do a lift?

Had a couple of those pass through my hands many years ago. Could kick myself now for letting them go.

Sounds like you've got it well thought out, tagging along for the awesomeness.

I’ve been asked that a few times. The original frame and divorced transfer case are remaining. They have a different look which sets highboys apart from other trucks.

I waited about 2 years too long to finally buy one. Been wanting to get one for 10 years. The prices have went crazy on them recently.

Ah, I forgot about the divorced transfer case setups but it makes sense as its beefy and makes it easier to use whatever transmission you want.
I thought they had stopped using them in the 60's or some reason. The only truck I've ever had with that setup was a 62.

Because we are fitting everything and welding up holes before it goes to powder coat.

I’m guessing he is fitting everything first in case frame need mods.  Once that is all done it will be disassembled, blasted/coated, then reassembled

Thanks. Off to check them out. I might have a couple of highboys that have been on the back burner. Power steering has always been a hangup for me. The old slave cylinder setup was always an issue even back in the early 90s.

OP I am all in, I have the same type of thread going on my 1977 Ford Bronco frame off restoration.  Dont know if you have done this before, but if you are even on the fence about doing or changing something, do it and dont look back.

Here is where my 1977 frame off is now:

Also, look into Amp Research power steps, you will never regret it  And if you are going to change wiring harnesses, then go to American Auto Wire and dont look at Centech.   Centech is a pain in the ass to work with.

I really wanted to but there isn’t a stand alone harness for that motor yet. Between Fat Fender Garage and Power by the Hour I have a complete plug and play engine/trans harness that uses a factory computer.

I have a set of amp steps already and my wiring harness is American auto wire.

This is my first one I’ve done to this extent.

I was happy to find companies like LMC for parts.

My end goal is a 70’s styled truck that rides and drives like a new one.
