I have around $300 "invested" in some alt coins. It's down huge from last week, but still up 300% plus from when I bought in three weeks ago. I'm not in the crowd that thinks a few hundred bucks will buy a Lamborghini or a house in a year. |

You're examples of computers and the internet solved critical problems and/or improved life somehow. No idea if that was the original goal of bitcoin or not. Guessing not. But, people with money in shit countries where the government can take all your valuables at a whim. Well, crypto they cant exactlly do that. The value in crypto is the anonymity anywhere on the planet assuming someone is around to accept it as payment. |

Greater fool theory.
Bitcoin was initially propped up by the Silk Road and money laundering in Asian countries. It hasn't really gained popularity as a real currency and it's actually started losing places that accepted it because of long transaction times and high fees. Taxes, regulation and reality are about to come crashing in. |

Crypto is gambling. Not investing. A few people got lucky and made a lot of money. A few people will make a little bit of money. Most people will lose everything they put into it. An investment needs a real world backing. Currency has governments and a nations economy behind it. Metals have a real barrier to production If you could mine physical gold from a hope pc system it would not take long for it to become completely worthless. There is nothing to limit the number of crypto currency and nothing making any one of them extremely unique. They will end up being more of an easy transfer medium like PayPal than an actual currency |

Tech is always changing and morphing thats a given. And we certainly will see elements of the bitcoin movement advanced into the future. However, I don't think there is a future in Bitcoin or the alt coins we see today. This technology is nothing more than a novel process of (mostly) existing technology, but it is highly inefficient and laughable if it wasn't taken so serious. Distributed architectures are great during times of innovation and growth, but centralization will eventually result to solve the legitimate concerns that plague these coin networks, and quite frankly any decentralized model. The philosophy of bitcoin is all bullshit, and I fear that people don't understand monetary history. Quoted:

If crypto is so valuable, you should be trying to convince others to sell so you can buy low. If you have to convince me to buy it, it's a pyramid scheme. Think about it like Colt Pythons. If Warren Buffett came out and said Colt Pythons are worthless, a lot of savy gun people would be happy and welcome the message. No one has to convince you that Colt Pythons are valuable. |

I watched that video earlier. He says Bitcoin will come to an end which I agree will happen. It's old and outdated compared to other crypto and blockchain alternatives out there. It will die a slow death, and may go way higher before it does. However it will be replaced with better, faster, cheaper options that are growing right now. However Buffet is an idiot. He talks about wanting to buy puts on bitcoin, but says he wouldn't because he doesn't understand it. ![]() The Tech is here to stay. What part and who is the real question. |
