One of my customers had an engine builder in PA build him a sleeved Coyote motor for his 2019 Mustang last year and I installed it for him. The car is ridiculously fast, ran a best of 5.80 at 123 in the 1/8th on the original engine and a 5.41 at 132 on the new built motor. We've been chasing transmission problems for the last 6 months and finally got that straightened out, so he took it to a test and tune session this past Thursday night. He calls me after his first pass and tells me that he made an easy pass for the first pass just to get a good datalog and make sure the fueling was OK, because we turned the boost up a little bit. Said the throttle hung wide open and he couldn't get it shut off, but now it's making noise and won't start. It did run a 5.81 at 134 though. He brought it to me this morning and this is what I found... https://i.postimg.cc/P5sDz4dg/20230318-125715.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/fRc9H9LJ/20230318-125731.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/7LqTjZGX/20230318-173550.jpg The data log said that the fueling was spot on, but it ended up turning 8800 RPM and somehow it split the blower case, knocked a chunk out of the housing and sent it through the intercooler brick. That ended up pumping the motor full of water from the intercooler, and I bet you can't guess what happens to a cylinder full of water trying to turn 8800 RPM.  Sounds expensive! The long block was nearly 25K but I'm sure the heads are still OK. Pretty sure that at least several of the rods are bent but not sure what all else might be damaged. A replacement blower is roughly 7K. I'd probably have been in tears but he was taking it pretty well, all things considered. You spotting him dimes for the gumball machine in the waiting room of your shop? Nah, that damn thing takes pennies! Still? Wow. I marked up my post for inflastion. (wrist brace on and Wild Turkey on board, misspellings will be plentiful) I honestly think the last time that machine actually had bubblegum in it was probably 40 years ago. It's been a minute. Put in a penny and it pours a shot? Oh hell no. Then I'd NEVER get anything done! So. No Coke machine with a Fresca button? Because no one drinks that shit, it's actually Bud Light. |
