Last time I went to Bern's (about 6 months ago with our company) I was very disappointed.  Waiter was awesome, food sucked.  Dessert room and wine cellar tour are still cool, so there's that.  But overall, it ain't what it used to be.

OP twice a year or so I will get a room at the Ybor City Hilton then go to the improv for a show and finish up at the brewery across the street.  Both places are fun to have a night out at.

Tampa a great city overall.  If my mother-in-law didn’t live in Valrico I’d seriously consider moving down there.  Awesome fishing, great weather, hurricanes usually miss the city.  Try this place below for an outstanding Cuban:

I hope you like racist, vibrant people. There is a good Chinese restaurant there, don't remember the name though.
The beaches suck if you like playing in the waves. Oh yeah, one more thing, I hope you like racist vibrant people!

Good luck!

Meh... I take I-4 to work everyday.  Except for the daily slow down around the I-75 interchange, it's not bad.  There are other nightmare interchanges (I-275 and I-4,) the Veteran's/Hwy-60 clusterfuck, and the north end of the Howard Frankland.  Overall I'll take Tampa traffic over Orlando and (God forbid) Miami traffic any day.

Me and the wife lived right off of Hercules Blvd in  Clearwater. We used to kayak out to the island off of Honeymoon Is Beach. We went to the dog beach a lot also with our GSD.

We used to go to Ft DeSoto park a lot. Biking the Pinellas trail was an every Sunday thing.

Welcome!

I had a similar situation where work relocated me. Lived in Channelside for four years and Riverview the last three.

Currently looking to buy a house in Bradenton or Plant City to avoid Tampa/Riverview traffic and to get some land.

Seems most other topics have been covered.

As an official ambassador for the Great State of Florida. Let me give you a few ground rules.

1. We don't give a shit how you did it back home. Seriously, we don't. Fuck raising taxes.
2. Don't bring Religious Fundamentalist Authoritarian Blue Laws. We like to drink, fuck, smoke, listen to music at all hours of the night, and watch titties bounce at the beach.
3. Hurricanes are not to be feared, but embraced. Have a generator, food, water, and plenty of liquor for the hurricane parties.
4. We don't give a fuck how you did it back home. That means don't bring Authoritarian Gun Control.
5. Traffic is a bitch. Get used to it.
6. Disney is evil.
7. Beware of Skunk Ape. He'll fuck you silly if you're passed out in the yard.
8. You better enjoy eating food.

9. Some advice about our roads.

WMNF 88.5 WMNF 88.5 FM for the music (7 days of archives on-line and on the phone app).  Skip their news and public affairs unless you want to listen to what the opposition is talking about.

Shooters World for a 100 yd indoor range (get there at opening time on a Sunday).

Skipper's Smokehouse for the oyster bar and outdoor live music.

Brocato Sandwich Shop for the deviled crabs.

E.G. Simmons Park on the east shore of the Bay.

Fort DeSoto park (easy to get to from Ruskin by going over the Skyway).

Dunedin Causeway at sunset.

Also there is Reload in Tarpon Springs which along with Shooters World makes you feel like you're at a BMW dealership more than a gun range.

We bought a 2 bedroom fixer upper in New Port Richey for 53,000 about 10 years ago. Traffic on US 19 is brutal. Beaches, kayaking and fishing are great. There are 8 city, county and state parks, on the waterfront, about 6 miles from us. Heading out next week for a 3 month stay.

Check out Manatee Gun & Archery Club. It's a little south of you. They took away the 1000 yard range there but I heard from a guy on the board of directors he is fighting to get it back. They still have a 600 yard range and everything in between. Also once or twice a month they will hold a 3 gun match.

Central Florida was a paradise before Disney.  Mostly rural and Southern.  The Yankee filth mostly stayed down in Miami.  Tampa and Orlando were nice quiet medium sized Southern cities.  Traffic on I-4 was sparse.  Cost of living was low and housing was really inexpensive.

The area around Sarasota/Bradenton was one of the hidden gem places to live in the US.  Ruskin was all agriculture.  Riverview was nothing more than a gas station or two along 301.

However, nowadays Florida is getting too crowded like many other places in the US.

Disney brought in tremendous growth and it has destroyed Paradise.
