The triumvirate of TNG uselessness:

Quoted: That makes him worse than Wesley by itself. I think having any kids on the ship was a mistake and the last time I watched the series I didn't hate him. Wil Wheaton is a piece of shit though. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: IIRC Captian Jellico ordered Troi into a normal uniform. That makes him worse than Wesley by itself. I think having any kids on the ship was a mistake and the last time I watched the series I didn't hate him. Wil Wheaton is a piece of shit though. You need to "understand" the era of TNG. The only "Super Powers" in the Beta and Alpha Quadrants[known space] are the Federation and The Klingon Empire who are allies. The Romulans are in total isolation and everyone else [as perceived by the Federation] are podunck back waters that are no matches for the awesome power of a Galaxy Class starship which is built to be diplomatic resort hotels for the purpose of gaining new Federation Members, settling disputes between backwater [inferior] worlds, and to carry out scientific research. The USS Enterprise is a Camp David of the Federation. It's not the embassy in Benghazi. However it is armed with enough fire power and shielding to deal with uppity hicks/rednecks or what ever slang term the Federation uses for them. Think of it this way. "You" might in CCW mode to fend off random thugs,"You" may take "your" family out to dinner or the movies(while "you" CCW) , but "your" EDC isn't geared towards dealing with a 1st world military , because that's not really a threat, right now. Edit: There's also the whole Commie housing issue. Earth Is full. So they need to put those people some where. |

The actor would on made more sense as the science obsessed kid enemy.

To me it was Worf. He got his ass kicked every other episode.
He didn’t come into his own until he put on the command colors in DS9. |

Quoted: You need to "understand" the era of TNG. View Quote I get it, they thought they were King Dingaling of the Alpha Quadrant but the mission was still one of exploration. They don't know what's out there and bringing kids along thinking the Love Boat could handle whatever they found was arrogant presumption. Even Picard thought so. |

Quoted: Data did more harm than good. Fight me. View Quote Eh, not gonna fight you, but my biggest complaint about Data is that he was like Superman. Anytime they got into a jam, they just basically said, "Thank goodness Data is here to ________" (fill in the blank with whatever special skill was needed at that moment). |

View Quote I grew up on TNG, and memories of watching it as a kid left me hating both her, and Wesley. I received the set for Christmas a couple years back, and was only left hating Wesley Crusher. The Guinan character was a pretty decent character, if you got passed Whoopie and the stupid hats. If you condemn a whole show based on a stupid hat, the whole show was retarded with it's futuristic clothing. |

Since I'm awake a bunch of the day while my nine year old is "virtual learning", I'm keeping an ear open for him and vegging out with pluto.tv. I turn on the Star Trek channel which is mostly the first few seasons of TNG.
He wasn't a pain in the dick as I remember besides the fact that he was always right (which is how Gene Roddenberry wanted him). As an adult, yes, he's an awful prick and I was sure to tweet "Shut up Wesley" when he said he never wanted to hear that ever again But the character itself wasn't the worst ever. Neelix, the chick he came with, harry kim (LOL), and the ½ Klingon chick were annoying on a different level. |

Even the actor who played him realized that.
And that's saying something, because the actor that played him is one of the most worthless actors in hollywood. It's also worth noting that the writers had Wesley taken away by a space pedo, so even they must have realized it. And they created him. Seven of nine fighting The Rock in space WWE was scraping the bottom of the barrel... And still wasn't quite as bad as Wesley crusher. I would have seperated Tuvix just so I could kill Neelix. And Neelix still wasn't as bad as Wesley. |

Wesley actually saved the ship several times.
Q was genuinely afraid of Guinan and she understood the Borg and time differences. Whoopi Goldberg was an NRA member, so don't hate on her. Troi was mostly useless but decent eye candy. Riker was actively harmful. Nearly everything he did harmed the ship and crew. Horrible commander who was constantly bailed out by superiors or subordinates. |

Riker's job was to "handle it" because the audience wouldnt believe if Picard was getting the "green stuff" Kirk style.

Ever notice that he only had 3 things to wear on the show; the fringy shirt made for him by his space grandma, the gay pride rainbow shirt, and his starfleet uniform.
At least his uniform didn't have padded muscles like the other male actors. He still had to wear the underwear that didn't show any VPL, can't have that in the future. Fun Fact, on the Big Bang Theory, he's not playing Will Weaton, he's playing Will Weaton playing Wesley Crusher playing Will Weaton. So he's a tool, playing a pussy, playing a prick. And you people said he can't act. |

Neelix had a reasonably hot GF for the time. Credit where it's due.

Quoted: It would of been the best show ever if Riker blew him out an airlock randomly with no plot point. View Quote Quoted: Beat. Guinan is useless space diversity. She ran the space bar that people only went to when the holodeck was being scrubbed down from excessive semen. View Quote The above are accurate. Also to OP’s point - there are a metric ton of useless characters on the THG and those that followed it. There is much competition for the title of “most useless” |

If Jellico was running the flagship, the Borg would have stayed in the Delta quadrant.

Worst characters in TNG:
Admiral Nachayev; young, bitchy, Hillary type. Always pushed bad ideas. And exemplified rising to your incompetence. Alexander: just to show how bad Worf was as a father. (Though in DS9, was kinda funny.) Luwaxana Troi: Nails on a chalk board. |
