Daily reminder the Germans have 225 main battle tanks.

That's it.

How many does Canada have?

More than that.

Don't they still have a bunch of tanks stationed in Germany?

How decisive are tanks?  They have a big portable gun, but they seem rather vulnerable to everything from molotovs to air strikes.

Tanks don't operate on their own.

This.  Also, they're not designed to be used to try and move close to protesters throwing molotovs to...scare them?  In a real war the molotov throwers would have all been killed by a couple sweeps of the coax going cyclic on that ass.

The French did earn some of that reputation in WW2 from the embarassing panic/retreat in the Sedan sector shortly after the German assault on France began.

Shit planning is mostly to blame for essentially engineering a plan that put a French reserve infantry division against the German spearhead.  But, given the gravity of the situation they NEEDED to die in place or at least fight hard to delay the Germans.  Instead they folded and many rear echelon formations, including artillery units fled in panic before ever being engaged on the ground.

The cream of France's army never had a chance, they were marginalized

Now, WW1 was a different matter, despite the generally awful generalship all around, the French sacked up and fought very bravely.  The only real thing I can fault them for were protests of the soldiers in the trenches but I'm not sure how content I'd be at a place like Verdun either.

People do forget that the French were SCARY under napoleon.  People in GD trip over themselves to suck off the Third Reich...Napoleon's accomplishments were every bit as impressive, though about as short-lived.

And, lots of other stuff.

It's pretty obvious why there is so much cock-craving for the Third Reich - same reason there is so much for Putin.  And it also explains why there is less for Napoleon.

Of course, to admit that would be to shed light on one of the most pervasive collective delusions held by so many - the all popular "the conventional political spectrum is a lie" meme.

Europe and Asia are the same land mass.

The western civilization concept of a "Europe" as a continental land mass distinct from an "Asia" dates back to when we thought the world looked like this:

http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=61947

We now know better.  Continental dividing lines used by custom are arbitrary, about as scientific as dividing lines between "races," so maybe you are trying to show solidarity with that crowd by being stuck in another era.

If there is any benefit in maintain a concept of a Europe separate from an "Asia" it is one of culture.  Russia represents savage nothingness that was settled by Europeans before it was conquered by Mongols, and now it has become its own special derplandia.

Peter the great knew Russia was not European, and tried to pull the culture that way.  Yet, Russia has a way of taking only the worst from other cultures, and rejecting the good.

This is a map that might allow for more clear dividing lines between Europe and Asia, FWIW.

So, Russia is Europe because an insignificant Mountain range that doesn't even reach all the way down the land mass is a clear, non disputable definer of what is Europe?

Russia is the bastard mongrel cultural offspring of the Mongols and Kieven Rus (and possibly some Orcs), with a weird love/hate thing for Europe, and no concept of the shared heritage and cultural understanding of actual Europeans.

The geographical borders of Europe have been defined for centuries, the Urals are what separates Europe from Asia. Arguing otherwise is silly.

Culturally, the Russians are a mix between influences from Central and Northern Europe, as well as from the peoples of the steppe. The Russians are the red-haired step children of Europe, but they're still European.

People used to think the sun revolved around the Earth.

Only on Arfcom have I encountered people who try to redefine European geography.

This is grade-school geography.

Don't they have some kind of cannons that can fire off 5 rounds with slightly different ballistics so they all hit the target at the same time?

Not on a tank.  Modern artillery can do that.

You need to understand that we're not talking about continents in the geological sense. The name "Europe" refers to a well defined area. End of story.

The only people who obsess over this are Europeans, and their own institutions and structures betray the reality of its arbitrariness.  Those borders you speak of have changed throughout history, and remain now merely as a monument to stubbornness.

Since Europeans defined the concept of continents, that's pretty natural don't you think?

So, they were praying before firing, hoping they didn't blow up (just yet)?
