Apocalypse Now & Heart of Darkness
The ending of the Japanese remake of Unforgiven is better than the original, and more in keeping with Spaghetti/Kurosawa movie themes Island of Dr. Moreau, now that I know the horrifying backstory of its production

Airplane was an almost line-for-line remake of a movie called Zero Hour, but changed the tone to a comedy rather than disaster flick.

Robocop. Remake was a much more serious movie. The first is a classic and great in its own way, but the remake is better.
