I consider a G20 a minimum caliber for a woods gun in remote areas.  My go to is a Ruger Alaskan and after carrying that you will appreciate the Glock.

moose will stomp a mudhole in you. we lived in Park City for a while and had one in the backyard. really big and really dgaf about you. thay're particularly surly when they have calves or it's breeding season or it's daylight or dark. i'd stay away from horses, too.
cougars, both 2 and 4 legged, abound, as well and the mexican food and barbeque sux there, too.

Up in the NWT of Canada.  I had never had an allergic reaction to an insect bite/sting prior to this, or since.  My airway started closing in.  I could still walk and manage the pack, but for a half hour or so, it was notable.  Cleared up, though.  Fucking weird.  I mean, who gets attacked by a moth?  Ok, who besides Godzilla?

We already had one guy down with a terrible fever, a really scary fever.  The next day, I had a massive histamine attack - my skin was bright red, I felt like I was on fire, uncontrollable itching and burning for the better part of a half hour, even after soaking in cold water for twenty minutes or more.

So, maybe it was the same infection that brought down our other team member, or the moth that bit/stung me as we were descending down into treeline.  Who knows.

What I do know is that I would have totally fucked that moth's day if I got a round on target with a 10mm, assuming I didn't shoot myself, or my friends in the process.

Nuts! I guess I didn't even know that moths could bite.

Gonna have to add that to the list of ways that I could die.

Yep, we've got a huge bull moose that walks by the house daily, we named him Marty, but he scares the shit out of me when I don't see him and then there he is staring at me.

Yesterday I was working in the field with the tractor and I turned around to do the next row and there he was staring at me, and that bastard is 3ft taller than me on my big ass tractor.

There's no way in hell I'm out running a moose on a tractor, or my feet so I just hoped he'd go away while I drove away slowly.

I have.  It's funny, because I've encountered dozens of grizzly and black bear on the roadside and while hiking and never had a dangerous encounter there...both times I have had dangerous encounters were inside campgrounds.

Why not?  45-70 master race signaling is a good thing.

I’ve never had a bad bear encounter, but I’m still beat phobic.

My dad was once chased up a tree by a moose.  It was before my time, and before everyone had a camera, but I would love to have a video of that event.

I’ve seen bears there, I’d want a 10mm if I was in the backcountry a lot. A hot 9mm would work in a pinch but I wouldn’t want to have to test that.

But then I got so old that the only women who could qualify as “cougars” to me would be in their 70s or 80s.

Deer by FAR.

And there's very little you can do about it, no gun will save you period.

Hardly anybody I know doesn't at least know somebody who hit a deer while driving at night, the lucky ones lived to tell about it.
