We had a Pontiac 2+2 convertible with the 421 tri-power.  I remember watching fireworks in it.

Dad bought a new 1965 Buick Wildcat that he kept until 1973. I have many great memories of riding in that car. It would effortlessly glide down the interstate at 100 mph.

When I was born, my mom had a red ‘70 ss Nova. That was sold when I was 3 and in return she got a blue 86’ Nissan Stanza “wagon”. Looking back, the stanza was the cooler of the two and probably more of a rare find these days.

My dad had blue ‘80 Mazda b2000 that was traded for a gold ‘85ish Oldsmobile cutlass ciera. It was a “nice” car for its time, but also a piece of shit.

The stanza was eventually traded for a white ‘91 Ford Taurus wagon. Also, a steaming pile of shit.

The olds was traded for a green ‘92

Nissan Maxima.

The ford blew a second transmission and was traded for a turquoises ’95 suburban.

The maxima was traded for leased a grey ‘96 Volvo 960.

The suburban was traded for a champagne ‘01 suburban and the Volvo was purchased out of its lease and given to me and replaced by a silver  ‘01 BMW 740il

The suburban was then traded for a green ‘03 dodge ram 1500 and a dark blue ‘04 Range Rover. This was also a giant pile of shit and was traded for a blue ‘03 Subaru Outback. At this point, I had been in a huge wreck in the Volvo and it was totaled and replaced with a red ‘95 Volvo 850 turbo r. This was the greatest car I’ve ever had and I regret selling it to buy a burgundy ‘93 Toyota 4Runner a couple of years later.

The Outback got traded for a silver ‘04 Chrysler Sebring that went to my brother. Another steaming pile of shit. (Both of them if I’m honest)

My mom traded a horse for a silver ‘89 Mercedes 560 sel around this time and got rid of the dodge.

I was given a red ‘01 VW Jetta as a college graduation present, so I sold the 4Runner and bought ‘04 Honda CB 900.

A silver jeep grand Cherokee SRT-8 cam into the fold around ‘08, but by this time I was out of the house and started losing track of my parents cars. I know there was a ford escape, then a Toyota rav 4, but I don’t know the years.

I soon got bored of the Jetta and sold it (really its timing belt snapped and I ditched it for cheap) I then rode my bike for a year before I decided I needed a car again and I bought another burgundy ‘92 4Runner. Then a ‘87 BMW e30, another e30 (‘89 ETA) both black.

The BMW was given to me for a hot minute, then sold to a family friend.

At this point, I’m married, I decided I needed a TDI golf, so I hopped a plane and went to San Diego and got a black ‘99 two door. Life happened, I sold the 4 runner and the ‘87 e30, the I got a real job that came with a company car. It was some soulless ford SUV. I hated it, but they paid for the gas and insurance, so I sold the other e30 ( second worst decision I’ve ever made). We also got a ‘01 silver 4 door golf from the in-laws on loan once I quit my real job to sell insurance.

I then bought a mystic blue ‘05 BMW 535 ti since I knocked up the wife and we needed some extra room. This was an awesome car and if I could have it back, I would in a heartbeat. It was a six speed with the summer and winter package. Super rare.

After this, I bought my 911 and my dad felt the need to get an M5, so he picked up a ‘01 e39 M5. I was fortunate enough to be its care taker for quite a few years while they were running around the country. They still have it. They also have a jeep wrangler (one of those 4 door abominations) it’s grey, and I don’t know the year. A white 2004 dodge Dakota and a motor home of some sort.

There are a few more in there, but that fairly close to a complete family history on cars. Not including cars that my brother owned or that we owned together, and cars I’ve owned since 2015. There was an ‘04 GTI, a ‘97 M3, an ‘04 Sentra type r, an ‘84 Mercedes 300d, an ‘89 dodge dakota, white a few motorcycles, lifted and over landed out Porsche Cayenne,

Wow.

When I was little I recall we had a big boat car.

Would have been mid to late 70s.

After that next memory is a diesel suburban that stunk and was loud.

Then a cargo van with lawn chairs in the back.

My mom drove some late '60s or early '70s blue sedan
of a make and model I don't remember, until we got
hit head-on.  Then she got a green '76 Plymouth Duster.

My step-dad had a manilla '73 Dodge Charger.

We got a brown four door hatchback AMC Eagle in 1980
to replace the Duster.

My Dad had a couple of Cadillacs.

One of them was a 65' or 66' Cadillac, a white one with those big ass fins?

Anyway, most all of the guys that my Dad ran around with had Caddies and such.

Status symbol for back in the day I guess.

Like, close to a 460 or something  the biggest engine package that they had.

Gas was usually thirty cents a gallon or even cheaper, so it really didn't matter if twelve to fifteen dollars would fill a car up and you could virtually run all week.

A lot of people had trailer hitches on their's back in the day and would tow boats around and go to the lake or something.

Running down the road at 75 you wouldn't even know it was back there unless you looked.

View Quote

65-66 was the 429. No fins per se. Awesome cars though! We used to race a 65 in high school, & was the 1st car I ever helped restore. A lot of wet sanding

StepDad...  1976 Chevy long bed with a 454...biznitch was a beast.  You'd floor it and see the fuel needle move.

I look back around 1987 and drove it to the farm to go hunting...idiot in me had it 110mph.  Lucky a tire didn't blow.

Circa 1982....Stepdad moved to a Chevrolet Long bed with a 6.2 Diesel....engine bit the dust at 320,000 miles or so.

This topic is amazing! You all seem much older than me with much cooler cars (and better memory than me) growing up! But when I saw the thread title it immediately made me think of my parents early 90’s Buick le sabre. And it made me laugh so hard that the OP also had a le sabre. I don’t really remember the cars before that when I was younger than 10. But I remember that buick vividly with its navy blue EVERYTHING fabric interior. And driving it around when I was a teenager and if you were going too fast and went over a bump how it would bounce up and down for about 5 minutes ?? that car got totaled when my mom slid on ice at 1mph and got hit with a city snow plow also doing about 1mph and destroyed it haha no one was hurt though.

Funniest story about cars growing up though was my dad would buy a $1500-2000 car and drive it with zero maintenance for a few years until it completely broke down and then instead of fixing it would just buy another. But once I moved out and started maintaining my own vehicles I tried to talk my dad into fixing and maintaining his cars. He drove over 100,000 miles without changing the oil a single time on his 2000 jeep Cherokee and I convinced him to change the oil one day with me. LITERALLY on the way to the auto parts store with him to buy the oil and filter that day, it threw a rod completely through the oil pan and dumped the oil all over the road ????

Before that happened though I got pulled over in that jeep doing 120mph in eastern Colorado in the wee hours of the morning. The state trooper asked me and my buddy where we were headed so fast and I said we’re trying to get to the ducks before the sun comes up and they start flying. He immediately said “sounds good just slow down a little” and told me to keep going!

Toyotas and e30’s. I’ve owned many e30’s. Even started an e30/vintage bmw club on the big island Hawaii. Sold or junked them all because of the rust here and not having the funds to properly restore and maintain them. Now I drive one of those 4 door wrangler abominations ?? need to get back into the bmw game eventually

I assume there was life before the station wagon - but I don't recall it.  I was in college (and the youngest), before the station wagon changed to a Caddy.  The first one was probably a Chrysler, the second a Buck.

Dad worked at GM, so we always had GM stuff.

Earliest I remember was a Chevy full size van, had seats but was pretty stripped down.

After that was a 91 chevy k1500 stick shift, extended cab. I'm not sure if my dad didn't order with a rear seat or it wasn't with the truck but for like 2 months ,I rode in the back cab on blankets because it didn't have a seat yet, lol.

I remember going back to the dealer and we got a seat installed but it didn't match the front upholstery, not sure why.  Mayne it was a salvaged one. The front was gray, the back seat was blue.

My dad work vehicle was a 1985 S15, bare bones. My dad just started at GM and thatbwas his first new vehicle. Just to give an idea how shit rusted away back then, by 1994 it was rotted to nothing and the iron Duke engine blew up. Pretty much 8 years later the truck was scrap. It got replaced with a 95 Sonoma and I I learned to drive stick shift and that was my.first vehicle. They still have it but it's rough.

My earliest memory was back in the late ‘60’s.
Dad drove a blue ‘64 or ‘65 VW bug with the crank open sunroof.
Mom drove a ‘59 Oldsmobile

Around ‘69 mom got a new ‘69 Chevy Kingswood Estate station wagon with a 396
About the same time Dad bought a VW Squareback. Cannot remember if new or used.

In ‘73 Mom was hit by a drunk driver in Dads VW and it was totaled. Gas was so expensive (LOL) she didn’t take the 396 on trips into Charleston. We were 30 miles away.
Dad bought a new ‘73 VW bus.

Around ‘77 mom bought a Datsun B210.  Gave it to my brother around ‘78 because her favorite couldn’t be 250 miles away from home in an old used Datsun 1200 with a rebuilt engine. Poor baby might break down.
She then bought a Datsun 510 station wagon.

I learned to drive in the VW van and the 510 wagon.

We were poor so dad always bought used cars. They bought a new 1964 Mustang just before we moved from Anaheim to Chicago Heights. Then dad had a big Pontiac, and then by the time I was a teen dad drove a big old Electra 225 he bought used from Chicago.
