Growing up in New Jersey, these things were called "ski cap."  Then I joined the Navy and got introduced to about 934571983450981751986586 different names for these things.  What do you call them?

Watch cap or beanie these days, depending on who I'm speaking with.

Stocking cap, when I was a young lad.

That is called a knit cap, or watch cap.

A beenie is the same style but made from fleece.

Anyone who calls that a toboggan is a poorly bred rube.
Anyone who calls it a toque is simply retarded.

Grew up in Massachusetts. That's a "ski cap", though if someone called it a "wool cap" I would know what they're talking about.

No, it's definitely toque or tuque, depending on how Canadian you are.

Been wearing this for twenty-three years..

I get a lot of favorable comments.....and

even more incredulous stares.

Shall we say, it's probably not for everyone.

Here in Dismal Seepage, we call this a ski cap.

Only those of us who are ruggedly good looking can pull them off.

This is a beanie, same idea, but different.  Beanies don't have extra material to fold over, they are essentially just a skull cap.

Has anyone ever pointed and laughed in your face?

I would think that a hat like that might even earn someone an ass whooping in some places.
