Originally asked for snake gaiter recommendation, but after looking at the photo closer, I think I nearly stepped on a Rattlesnake and a Copperhead at the same time. How screwed would you be if you got bit by both?

I wouldn't worry about them for hiking, unless you go crawling through large rock areas.

I don't own gaiters yet, I went for boots, but they are WAY too hot in the summer so I'm going to buy the lightest pair that guarantees they won't get penetrated.

I relocated a mother that just had 8 babies at my neighbor's house just last week. I've relocated 13 venomous snakes this summer.

Turtleskin are my go to pairs, they weigh almost nothing. They can be noisy as they are a somewhat stiff material, but nothing I've walked through penetrates them, including cactus and south Tx thorns. I'll wear them with my snake boots and some light shorts during the summer.

Throw a black widow and a brown recluse into the mix and then you would have a real party!

A Copperhead and Rattlesnake being in that close proximity of each other is rare. The chances of it happening are outrageous.
Either way it would be a great run of the worst luck possible. Copperheads usually won't kill you, but will make you wish they had for a day or two. Rattlesnakes are pretty toxic, but vary.

In WV killing a native snake not actively threatening livestock or in your house is treated as poaching by the authorities, who do not fuck around.

Relocated meant just that.  I don't want them under my feet but I don't like killing them.

It takes a whole lot to get bit or really being off the clear trails where you can't see them on the ground and stepping on one.   They really just want to get away from you.  I will tell you the rattlers around here don't rattle much, if at all, so don't count on a warning if you're close.

About the rattlers with copperheads..... When a female rattler gives off that breeding pheromone, any snake that catches a whiff will come in.  2 different occasions this summer I have caught rattlers with copperheads and the one time a huge garter snake was in there with them as well, it surprised me.

Probably the same thing as if a brown recluse and black widow spider bit you at the same time.  Or maybe a red wasp and yellow jacket stung you at the same time.

I'm weird and actively look for snakes, but it isn't really all that rare in my experience. I've seen a number of copperheads and timbers in close proximity to each other, sometimes even in the same crevice or under the same boulder.
