I remember watching The Ring with a friend at his house when we were about 12.
7 days later I was staying at a cabin by a lake surrounded by woods with different friends, and I don't know if they noticed me sitting in the corner like |

Event Horizon
The Thing The Ritual There are others on my to-see list that I'm sure rank up there, but the spouse is not a fan of some types of horror films. I have to find time to watch them alone. Prince of Darkness, if you're a certain type of science nerd The People Under the Stairs seems to get some people. |

Hostel, because I could imagine it happening to me when younger.

Most "scary" movies are just dumb or funny to me. Event Horizon though is a bit scary but, not the top of the list.
One of the few movies I felt gave me a bit of chill up my spine is: PANDORUM (2009) - TRAILER [HD] Updated Now the scariest creature imagined to me are the weeping angles of Dr. Who TV series. |

Damn that would have made a great game. I cant say I blame him for deleting it. It's that terrifying. I remember playing Resident Evil on PS1 as a wee lad. It was scary but not too bad. PT was next level shit. Something about that demo caused such a visceral fear response in me and I could only play it a few minutes at a time before giving up. Curiosity would get the better of me and I'd try again. Nope nope nope. I think it's still on my PS4 but I have no inclination to play it again. Kojima is a legend. Friday the 13th. Not so much the movie itself but the ending with the girl floating in the canoe on the pond with Jason jumping out scared the fuck out of me.

Anyone remember a movie from 1987 called The Kindred?
Not a well known movie, but it fucked me up when I saw it. |

Phantasm
A Nightmare on Elm street. The second wasn't bad. The rest were. Now, they seem comical as said above. Exorcist poltergeist A lot of good movies have been mentioned but few have been scary to me. The gory stuff isn't scary. |

Every time this gets asked, I usually say The Changeling or The Shining. I give honorable mention to The Woman in Black 1989. Ouija Origin of Evil was a good recent one.
It’s kinda hard to say what’s the scariest movie. It’s so subjective. Ghost/Supernatural stuff is what usually creeps me out. |

Prophecy. The one with the mutant bear. Growing up in the woods , but near Oak Ridge, TN. Mutant and glowing animals had my young imagination seeing all kinds of shit in the woods.

What movie featured a plumber getting his fingers chopped up in a garbage disposal and suffocated by a pipe leaking a blackish substance while he crawled under it? That, was unforgettable in my adolescent brain...! View Quote I can't remember the name of the movie though, and it will haunt me until I figure it out. Gee, thanks! @MarthaStewart I found one of the clips! Evil Disposal Per the comments, it's from Amityville: The Evil Escapes! I thought for sure it was an Amityville movie, but could never figure which one. I kept thinking it was called The House in Amityville or something like that... Mystery solved! |

Scary is subjective. As a young kid, it had to be Phantasm. Even the scenes when you weren't supposed to be scared were dark and ominous. The music was just right. The evil wasn't well defined. After that a calm night in the darkness was scary.

I'm surprised exorcist is getting so many mentions...I don't feel like that movie aged well, lol.

Paranormal Activity hands down.
The most paranoid, scary, can't escape movie I have ever seen... And I see them all. |
