Actually now that I think about it, the sugar-free gummy bears that make you shit yourself are probably the worst.

Milk duds are bad ass- hence my incredulity.

I like candy corn.  In this house, a bowl of it doesn't last long.
Five pages in and no one has mentioned the worst candy of all...whatever these things are called.  You physically cannot eat them without ripping a square of paper off along with them.  Who wants to eat paper?

Circus peanuts are nasty compared to peeps.

If peeps were bourbon, circus peanuts would be Bud Light.

Damn. I didn't think anyone else had ever even seen them. Although, once you have had one, it leaves a lasting memory. They taste like a rotting dumpster smells. We got a couple in a mix-your-own bag in Chinatown. Throwing them in the garbage wasn't enough. We had to take the garbage out to get rid of the smell.

I have a coworker married to a half Italian/half Vietnamese girl. Apparently his MiL loves them and he thought it would be funny to put them in the community candy dish and spread the misery that is their existence.

I know I went on a bit of a tangent with medicine flavored candy and limes starburst, but you made it all the way to parsley.  I am impressed.

Mix candy corn with salted peanuts.  It tastes just like a payday candy bar.

Circus peanuts are disgusting.

The wintergreen candies are made from Pepto Bismol.  I can see why some people like them as medicine flavored candy seems to be a thing with people.  Cherry Starburst are an example.  Taste just like cough syrup.  I wish they would bring back the lime flavored ones.  UK Starburst still have them.

Yeah, candy corn is more of a Halloween nostalgia thing for me than anything. As per your recommendation, I have mixed them in a small bowl with roasted peanuts in Halloween season for my family and I, back when my kids were young and it improved the taste significantly.

Worst candy for me, since I was a kiid are those small, different colored "traditional Christmas candies". I've never understood the appeal. Seems like one of those strange, rather meaningless traditions of something not intended for human consumption. Just like parsley sprigs served with meat dishes when I was a kid growing up in the 1960s.
Back then if my parents or grandparents ordered steak in a restaurant it always seemed to come with a very small amount of parsley on the side. I can recall seeing parsley come on plates at restaurants - but have never seen the parsley eaten. Iirc, my mom once told me the parsley was to cleanse the palate. I think the ginger that comes with sushi does a better job.

Back at ya, bro. You know, I never thought of my candy corn w/roasted peanuts combo as a deconstructed Payday, however you nailed it. I loved Paydays as a kid, my favorite candy bar.

And yeah, you are correct about the extent of the tangent I went off on. After writing it, I actually thought to myself, "Someone needs to start a separate "The useless nature of parsley sprigs" thread and I wondered how much bewilderment said sprigs have caused innocent diners over the years. That perhaps I accidentally derailed the thread, leading to pages of frustrated steak eaters expressing their PTSD caused by those little green palate/breath cleansers.

When I went trick or treating as a kid, a lot of houses used to give those out.

They are like eating chalk.

I had some a year or two ago and they haven't changed, either.

I had some Scandinavian hard candy with a Salmiak salt center, like a gross Charms Blowpop with a super-gross center.  About one person in 8 could finish the candy. It was like a Vegemite candy with a strychnine core.

I ate half the bag proving my manhood to family and friends.

My HS art teacher always had Sen-Sen on her breath.  Didn't know what it was at first, then I saw her carrying it.  Probably popped one when she left the smoker's lounge.  She was nice, and a cool teacher.

OP nailed some of the worst.  I'll add those giant flat sided, swirl-colored lollipops as big as saucer plates you'd find at fairs and amusement parks.  They were disgusting.

Necco wafers weren't considered edible, and instead were my first introduction to reactive targets.  We'd wedge them into cracks along a board and shoot them with .22s.

Agree

When I was a kid you could not find these locally! Anywhere!

Saw them on the original psychedelic Willy Wonka, and literally dreamt about them. One day I found some.

Never meet your hero's .

32,000 pounds a day * 365 days a year = 11,680,000 pounds produced a year
a 20 pound box of bulk circus peanuts / ~1200 peanuts per box = .016667 pounds per peanut
11,680,000 pounds produced / .016667 pounds per peanut = ~700,800,000 circus peanuts produced a year

That's less than two circus peanuts produced every year for each US resident.  And that's assuming none are exported either.  If you have one 5 oz bag a year you're eating roughly eight times your share of circus peanuts.
