I had a 2003 Toyota Highlander; it was awd, got decent fuel economy, seated 5 adults. And the transmission blew up at ~150k miles.

I bought it from a Toyota dealership with ~135k on it, clean title. Was quite pissed to be out ~$9,000.

2014 Nissan Versa. It was the cheapest new vehicle on the market at the time for a reason. The powertrain seemed solid enough but the cheapo interior self-destructed after less than a year and the thing felt as secure as driving a leaky fish aquarium on freeway at 80 MPH. I was glad to get rid of it.

Toss up. Both were GM. Silverado 2002 or Olds 88 LS 1997. Both POS’s. Never again GM.

I had a '66 Buick Skylark with the 305 and a powerglide. The gas tank straps rusted through and left my gas tank skidding along under the back on the highway, held to the car by the rubber 3/8" fuel line. That was fun. And the timing chain grenaded on me. It cost me $325 in 1976 dollars.

Every part of it was junk. Right down to the constantly malfunctioning door switches and horribly under-built front suspension. A single fuel injector for all 8 cylinders? Really?

Mercedes Benz W123. German lemon lot car. A massive barge with absolutely glacial acceleration. Little old ladies on mopeds would pass me on the Autobahn and shake their fists at me. Oh, and the parking brake randomly decided to not work, causing it to roll across the road into the ditch. Miraculously, it never hit anything the couple of times it did that...

Bought it in 91 with 38k on it. By 50k the head gasket leaked coolant into one of the cylinders and bent a connecting rod.

At 76k the transaxel took a shit.

Traided it in at a "Push, pull or drive it in" trade in sale.

1973 Honda Civic that had been neglected, abused, and parked outside near the beach for most of its life.

I fixed it up and learned a WHOLE lot in the process, and acquired the core of what is now a pretty comprehensive set of tools.

1994 gmc sonoma 4x4.
if driving headlights would not work. once you got over 35 mph they would work. While headlights were off interior lights were on, vice versa.
push button 4x4 was never reliable and constantly had to disconnect module behind passenger kick panel to get it to work.
Traded it for a 79 GMC Sierra 4x4, loved it.

My wife's former '06 Beetle. Bought it with 3l and was so bad that we traded it at 23k. Several bad xenon lamps, one bad headlamp wiring harness, airbag light, 3rd brake light fell the fuck out, and a bad water pump all in 20k. I may have forgotten a thing or two. I guess it didn't catch fire or leave her stranded, so there's that...

It was a giant fucking steaming pile of German shit. Multiple repairs to multiple parts and systems.

Convinced me to never buy a German car again.

It took a 1in thick file of copies of all of the repairs sent to VW in Germany along with a threat of a lawsuit for them to finally buy it back.

Fuck VW, fuck Audi and fuck Germany.

Honda Civic back in the 70's. Bought from my father who had good luck with it. That was when you had to be on a waiting list to buy one. Every week something was wrong with it. The most annoying thing was the gas pedal would go to the floor on its own. Pull over, shut it down, hear a "clunk" then it would be fine. Nobody could tell me what was causing it.

My worst vehicle oddly is also one of my favorites. 1995 4runner. I love everything about the vehicle but the engine was complete shit. The 3vze V6. Slow as shit, bad on gas, head gasket issues, oil leak issues...etc.

00 Ford Exploder, bought from dealer with around 55k on it. Engine light came on and started making a noise with in 4 weeks of purchasing, Ford replaced the engine. 6 months later the tranny went. It also went through a few other more minor parts. Ironically I bought it to replace my most reliable car, a 93 Integra.

It was fast with v6 but that mfer would leave me stranded not starting or acting up at least 2 or 3 times a year, went through brakes fast, chintzy interior
Least desirable ride I have owned.

1982 Camaro Z28. Clutch plate lost a pad at 800 miles. Dealer fixed under warranty but installed the clutch plate backwards, failed again at 2400 miles. Differential seal failed dramatically at 20K dumping the oil and causing limited slip clutches to burn up. There was a power steering pump and alternator failure in there, but I don't remember the mileage. The clutch mechanical linkage failed 6 times between 15K and 90K when I finally sold the POS in 1986. One of those clutch failures occurred when I was in the Mojave desert shooting an SP1. Had to drive 90 miles home in 2nd gear. I have never considered owning another GM.

Yep I owned a VR6. Had to put the lock carrier in to the service position regularly. German engineering is shit.

Honestly.

If I had to pick the worst of a good bunch, it would be a Scion xB. I bought it used and it needed a water pump, 2 ignition coils, and a cleaning of the throttle body. Solid car.

2014 Ford Focus. It has been in for more work than the previous 6 vehicles combined. The worst part is when we went to trade it several dealers wouldn't even make an offer, "we don't want those" is what they said. It's always in for the same transmission issue, the first repair took so long to get parts that we couldn't lemon law the car. Fuck Ford, we will never buy another new Ford, it's the most disappointing vehicle ever.
