My wife used to work in a regional hospital on the orthopedic floor but it was a catch-all for preop and postop patients, overflow for BMU, emergency ect. She told me there was one room on her floor that shit happened all the time. Light turning on and off, equipment during on and off, TV, door slamming, ect. She told me that soooooo many people had died in that room. In fact after a while people who weren't expected to recover were normally wheeled into that room. Many of the nurses hated to go in it. Many times she would make another nurse come and help her and she would do the same for others should she be required to tend to a patient in that room. She said there was such a creepy vibe to that room like one of doom or great sorrow.

She made me swear to her that should she ever get admitted to never allow them to put her into that room!

There's a hospital in Louisville, Ky where a dead guy  rides a certain elevator. All day, every day, non stop.

Was staying at Ballys in LV. I was awakened out of a sound sleep around 2AM by the overwhelming smell of acrid black smoke.

When I turned the light on I expected my room to be full of smoke. Nothing....felt the door and it was cool but expected to see smoking billowing down the hallway...nothing.

The next day I found out that Balleys was occupying the old MGM Grand!

It wasnt in 2003ish when this happened and it totally went over your head that 80+ people died in a smokey fire at the MGM Grand which is now Balley's

No, it didn't go over my head that 80+ people died in the fire at the old MGM Grand which is now Bally's.

I stand by my comment.  Bally's is a shithole.

ETA: No offense to you is intended.  I appreciate your story.  Sorry if I sound like an asshole.

As I was finishing graduate school, I was asked by one of my professors if I would meet with a local merchant & provide him an informative report on a piece of African art he had bought. So I went to meet the guy, & he showed me his "art" - a bakongo Nail Fetish, an nkonde.
Here is an example piece (not the one he had, but essentially the same):
Attached File

He asked some questions, including 'could he add some more nails? Etc.'

[Bakongo Nail Fetishes, from the Congo River Basin in Central West Africa are considered "power figures", serving prominently in tribal government. It is believed that a water spirit inhabits the figure, so that when a nail is driven in, it pricks the spirit to wakefulness, so that it will do whatever is tasked. Two people engaging in a contract might drive in a nail, so that if one of them reneged on the contract, the spirit would hunt them down.
Some of these figures were believed to be able to sniff out a thief, or to hunt down & kill a murderer. Early Christian missionaries in the region, initially skeptical, wrote fearfully of the figures, claiming to have witnessed them "work."]

At any rate back to my experience. So I agreed to provide documentation & photographs for the figure's owner. I set up in a room with the nkonde, taking measurements then writing them on a pad on the table with my back to the figure.
This went on for a while, counting prominent features, measuring every possible dimension to make certain that insurance would have complete documentation. After a while, writing descriptions & a summary down, I had the overwhelming sense that someone had come into the room. I turned & looked around the room. No one.
Again back to writing. Again the sense that was not alone.
Turn & look around. Nothing different.
Then after the third time of strongly feeling someone in the room, I turned again but I looked right at the nkonde.
It was still "alive" & active.

I had the biggest chill run down my spine. It was alive & it was staring at me!
You know that weird feeling you get when you look a Mandrill Baboon in the eyes in a zoo? It's looking back at you, is not in least afraid & will tear you to pieces without hesitation. It's that feeling.

[You often find these things in museums. But usually the small mirror located on the abdomen has been broken. The nganga (witch doctor/priest) places the "magic" inside the abdomen sealed with the mirror; the spirit that animates the figure is supposed to look out through the mirror to see into this world from the spirit world. When the mirror is broken, the "magic" goes away.]

I finished up hurriedly, gathered my notes & camera equipment & left.
The owner asked again if he could drive a nail into it. I warned him not to, told him as much as I could about the figure & my experience with it.
Up until that point, I had been convinced that these things were silly mumbo jumbo.
After my experience staring into the face of an entity that frightened the hell out of me I reread the accounts of missionaries. They started out pooh-poohing these things too. It's hard to describe the feeling of looking at the face of something that my faith & religion & science all say doesn't exist, but there it is staring at you.

ETA although it is not certain, the nkonde is probably the origin for the Caribbean voodoo figures ("dolls"). But the Nail Fetish is usually much bigger, from 2 to 6 feet tall.

This has been almost 20 years now since this happened.  I looked back in the ARFCOM archives and found my story:

I was a teacher at the time and worked in a program that was designed to allow student that were not able to attend class to get credit for attending school. It was called a "homebound" program. I had many students with various diseases as well as students that could not go to school because of violent behavior problems or criminal status.

One of my students was a 6 year old female that was prevented from attending school because of violent episodes. During these episodes, she would babble, scream, and exhibit the strength of a strong adult male. It would require a number of ADULT teachers and aides to subdue her. She was able to throw a regular size student desk across the room.

She had an entire battery of doctors that worked with her to no effect at all. She had a very bad family environment at all levels. It should be noted that her family was involved in a voodoo cult.

Until meeting with her a number of times, I had assumed that she had severe psychological problems. However, after a number of meetings, I began to think that she might be possessed. I also realized that she could read minds during her "possessions"! I decided to test my theory. So the next time that I went to her home, I was sitting behind her and THOUGHT to myself the following: "If you are really possessed, then get up from your chair and go pick up the shoes in the corner." That that moment, she turned in her chair and stood up. She walked to the corner and picked up the shoes and then turned to me and smiled. She set the shoes back down and walked back to her chair and went back to work.

I had a coworker that came to the same conclusions due to similar experiences. She terrorized and attacked everyone that worked with her except me and the one other coworker that came to the same conclusion as me. She feared the two of us greatly and would writhe in pain sometimes just from being in our presence. The rest of the time, she would cower. I could get her to work only if she did not have to look at me.

I strongly felt I was being watched.
I also felt "it" wanted me to acknowledge its presence.
Fortunately I'd done scholarly research on them, so I wasn't totally caught off guard. But I really didn't expect to have it make its presence known.

I also avoided any extra contact with it, only what was necessary to complete the research package. In handling it, I treated it with respect.
Interestingly enough, the figure was modern era, not nearly as old as many of the museum pieces. Most of those get "retired" when there is no more space to drive a nail.

The standard posture for these figures is a partial crouch/flexed knees with one hand raised (holding a knife or spear point) in a stabbing posture. The figure when appealed to is supposed to "fix" the problem. But the word used is kanga which not only means to fix, but refers as a sound alike to a palm knife... so the figure is posed ready to fix the problem.

As an art piece, it's fine. Strange, eye-catching even if a little different.
It's the black magic associated with the real ones that's the issue.
You could easily carve your own. Face should be painted white, normally has like a grass skirt around the waist & is male.
Then go to town with the nails.

I saw a fully dressed adult male step off of the curb in front of a full size suv which was directly in front of me in broad daylight.

No brake lights, no body.

I start this by saying I was a cynical skeptic.

When I was a teenager my brother and I had rooms in the basement.  One night I was in bed and the light that we’d use the majority of the time began to turn on and off.  My brother was older and used to do that to mess with me.  I called up for him to stop and the light remained on.  Then the TV on the other side of the basement turned on.

It was then I remembered my brother wasn’t home.  I think I moved so fast up the stairs my feet didn’t touch a step.

My parents moved into a new house a few years later.  When my brother and I left for basic training, our wives spent a weekend there with my mother.  My wife was pregnant at the time (remember this) and slept on the couch.  She awoke to an apparition of a little girl looking out the French doors of the kitchen.  “She stated it looked just like you’d think a ghost would.”  It was a little girl dressed in white that illuminated the room.

She only told me this.

When my brother deployed for the first time, my sister-in-law again spent the night at my mothers and slept that same couch my wife was on.  She was pregnant at the time.  She awoke to a ghost of “a little girl” singing lullabies to her.  She left the house in the middle of the night.

My mom, wondering what happened, called my SIL and my SIL told her ex’s rly what happened.  It got back to my wife and she shared her story.

It turns out that my mom knew something was there and decided to name this ghost Victoria because of the way she was dressed.  My sister stated that when she would come home from school she be welcomed with “hi 2aknights sister’s name.”

I’ve got a couple more stories of the house that are a little darker I’ll share later.

Local ghost hunters want to pursue this with my mom but she won’t let them.

My wife and I have dealt with the supernatural in many places since we were kids. I guess that we're slightly attuned to it due the experiences, however, we are both engineers and look to the logical to explain everything. Can't say as much for over night guests who are neither used to it....or can reasonably explain things.

My wife and I met 7 years ago and bought our house 5 years ago. The house is an old farm house that is now 102 years old. This area used to be surrounded by fields but now is an actually neighborhood. The plat book is 4 inches thick....so a lot has happened on this property over the century (in the 90's most of it was stripped out and remodeled). Anyways, I work from home.....so I spend a LOT of time here by myself. I know the sounds the cats make, what it sounds like when a walnut hit the roof, wind impact, etc. I can be on any floor or in the basement and have a pretty good idea where anyone is at. I know the sounds my house makes.

Well, pretty much from the start, we started adding things to the house. First project was adding shelving in one of my boys rooms before we moved in. I swear, I could feel something around me and the anguish when I mounted the shelving to the wall. Hard to describe, but almost like the house was screaming at me. While working on that project, I had to go downstairs to grab a fresh drill battery. On my way down the stairs, I was physically pushed in the back which made me tumble down the stairs, hit my head on the wall on the landing, and left a nasty gash on my shin. I tried to blame a cat (no cats around me at the time) or me just loosing footing. But I couldn't get past the feeling of being pushed in the back. And thus started some interesting phenomenon in my house.

We have done a lot of projects here.......floors, plumbing, electrical, fun stuff.....to get it to where we want it.

My wife likes original wood floors. We have done the dining room and living room already, with the most recent being the floor in the 1st floor bedroom right off of the living room. A few weeks ago, we moved out of the second floor master bedroom into the first floor bedroom as we want to do that floor, paint, and do some other projects in that room. It is directly above the first floor bedroom. My wife is currently working thirds on a project that can only be done at night, so I am home alone at night all week. Since moving down there, I hear footsteps from the second floor. It is obviously the sound of a hard soled shoe on wood. I can hear the wood creak with weight. Even if one of the cats was up there, they couldn't make that sound. My office (where I am sitting right now) is on the second floor and around the corner from that room. In the middle of the day I will hear shuffling sounds. Tools go missing. Every now and then you will hear voices...as if two people were having a chat. I'm kind of use to it....so during the day it doesn't bother me much.....besides, I'm busy doing my job.

This past weekend, my youngest sister came into town and we went to a concert. While she experienced strange things growing up, we don't talk about it much. After the concert, we get back to my place and she takes the second floor bedroom (where I installed the shelves) as she normally does. I go to my bedroom on the first floor. My wife is at work. I settled in and was watching a little TV before calling it a night. And then the footsteps started up again. I didn't think much of it as I thought that she might be walking around or whatever. I was woken up throughout the night by this.....as well as footsteps on the wood stairs. Knowing that she was up there was an explanation.

Woke up late Monday morning/early afternoon and she came downstairs.....looked like she hadn't slept at all. I made a joke about her being hungover, but that wasn't the case at all. She barely got any sleep. Turns out, she was kept up by someone walking around all night, people talking, music.....and a constant shove every time that she was about to fall asleep. She ended up turning all of the lights on upstairs at some point in order to make it go away (didn't help). My sister is a cop, and I have no reason to believe that she is making this up....especially with what my wife and I have dealt with here. Crazy stuff.....

But as a good brother, I sent her home with some AR15 mags and some ammo :-)

That sounds very similar to the house my father grew up in. His house wasn't 100 yo, but an old Victorian that the former owner killed his wife, almost murdered the daughter and killed himself about a few miles down the road.

The experiences are all similar though all collaborated by all 9 cousins of my family who stayed in the house, including my father and his 3 siblings. Foot falls down the hard wood floors all night. Doors being opened. Arriving home and having all the doors and windows open after knowing they were locked closed. Tools missing after just laying them down only to find them in an obscure place at a later time. Ice cold areas. We were forbidden to go to the basement, which I defied but no experiences just a real creepy vibe, that I eventually got used to.

One night I was sleeping in my uncle's bedroom. It was summer and the house is in the Allegheny Mountains so cool nights and light blankets on the bed. I was awoken by footsteps walking down the long hallway. As l laid there trying to go back to sleep I heard the footsteps grow louder, I roll over and pull the blanket over my head as the foot falls grow ever closer to my bed. Suddenly I feel a cold chill come over me as the footsteps stop. I am freezing and trying to pretend I am sleeping but every cell in my body was on edge. It felt like someone was staring at me, as though what ever it was had been looking over my bed but I dared not move a muscle. The footsteps start again and as they begin to move towards the door the chill begins to leave and finally they disappeared as the footsteps continued back down the hallway.

I never felt scared to be in the house but that one time.

For a period of a few years we had several weird, creepy things happen.

Our middle child's bedroom door is just out of our line of sight to the right and across the hall from our bedroom door.  When they were younger we slept with our door open so we could hear them if they got up or needed us.  One night I was reading in bed and out of the corner of my eye I saw our daughter pass in front of our doorway coming from the direction of her room.  The hall bath is down that way so I had an ear open waiting to hear her using the bathroom but I never heard anything.  I got up to go check on her and everything was still shut down and closed up so I finally went to her room and she was sleeping soundly.

Our youngest, Audrey, was a toddler/preschooler and we called her Audrey Pauge as a nickname.  We would hear her talking, sometimes giggling, and sometimes angry in her room.  Full on conversations.  We'd ask about it and she'd tell us there were other Audrey Pauge's.  I took a video one time in her room asking who she'd been talking to and she'd point to the corner of the room and start talking to one of the other Audrey Pauge's.

No question though the absolute freakiest thing was something I posted about here right after it happened.  She was about 2 and it was bedtime.  I sent her to her room to get her pajamas on while I got her milk and as I was at the microwave I heard her little feet running through the living room and turned just as she ran past the doorway.  It was a blur of dark brown, peach, then white color----hair, skin, and diaper.  I walked through the doorway and turned to get onto her about not being in her pajamas and there was nothing there.  Past the doorway there's a small entry hall leading out to the garage and then the laundry room and both were empty.

I looked at my oldest kid (on the couch reading) trying to figure out what had just happened when Audrey came walking out of her bedroom in her pajamas.  My other kid just looked at me with huge eyes and I said, "Did you just see her run by here?"  She couldn't even talk.  Just nodded her head as we stared at each other trying to make sense of it.

In the meantime our dog went to the door leading out into the garage and just sat there staring at the door.

My husband was on nights and our oldest was in tears wanting me to call the police or something.  I was like, "And tell them what?  We saw a ghost?"

That is creepy.  I haven't had time to read the whole thread yet but I scrolled through to find it.

I found the video.  Why I didn't think to turn off her white noise machine is beyond me and it makes it difficult to hear her.  And she's 2 and not super cooperative, lol.

Ignore her extra pinkies----they're gone now.

I don't think that it's time for a visit from a local Priest at this point. I know that there are multiple entities here.....both residual and intelligent. Nothing on the evil or demonic side.

My sister had the same impression that I did about what ever it was that kept waking her up and pushed me when I was on the stairs - it was a curious child. I think that the footsteps and conversations that we hear might be a residual haunting.

And then there are the entities that are connected to something physical. A book, a stuffed animal, a letter. Innocuous objects that can be carriers. And then there is the entities that attach themselves to a certain person....such as a "guardian angel". But those are new roads to go down.

As I was finishing graduate school, I was asked by one of my professors if I would meet with a local merchant & provide him an informative report on a piece of African art he had bought. So I went to meet the guy, & he showed me his "art" - a bakongo Nail Fetish, an nkonde.
Here is an example piece (not the one he had, but essentially the same):
https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/464777/tumblr_inline_mqea7dN0ac1qz4rgp_jpg_jpeg-1093620.JPG

Some GREAT local stories here.  Love it.

Here is one of mine that I culled from the "Have You Seen?" thread.  It's my Pixie story which occurred in about 2003.

The short version.

At the time this happened I was living on the southern edge of Mesa, AZ near a dairy. The neighborhood was very new and there was sitll a lot of desert to the south of us. We'd get wild animals like Javelina, roadrunners, etc in the neighborhood all the time. Once there was even a wolf! She wasn't "wild", though. She was my neighbor's pet wolf, Kikki, who was always escaping and scaring the bejesus out of people. Anyhow, I found out later that the location is actually important in a way. I'll talk about Kikki some other time. She was a hoot.

Anyhow, I was up very late at night and had been having trouble sleeping for several days, I was exhausted. I was in the garage doing some reloading and stepped outside to have a smoke.

As I raised my head from lighting my cigarette, right across the street from me, in my neighbor's yard, right in the middle of the pool of light from the street lamp stood the prettiest, teeniest girl you could ever see.

She was perfectly proportioned and was maybe 3 and a half to 4 feet tall. Oddly, it wasn't that she looked small, exactly....it was almost like looking at someone from far away. It is really hard to describe.

She had shoulder length, frizzy blonde hair that stuck out from beneath the cutest, red Phrygian cap. (Smurf hat, no kidding). Her eyes were the bluest blue and they sparkled. She wore red top clothes, a red vest type garment laced over a green, long sleeved, undershirt. The lacings in her clothes were golden. I recall a red skirt and some kind of tights that were a similar color. Her shoes were leather and were sort of what you would expect a run of the mill Pixie to be wearing, I suppose.

She was incredibly beautiful. I mean, un-naturally so.

Scared me half to death. Sort of...it is hard to explain.

Now, mind you, I did not know this at the time, but the proper greeting under such circumstances is to say something to the effect of "God bless you and well met, Merry Lady!".

Oh, not my dumb ass. I looked at her, jaw agape and I said, "HEY! Your not supposed to be here!" In other words, "Hey girl! Wrong reality!" It is really hard to explain my feelings, it was almost like when Jefferey Epstein "committed suicide"....I was surprised that I wasn't exactly surprised....but I was still surprised.

Anyhow, with a twinkle in her eye, (literally, her eyes sparkled) she did this little, ballerina tippie toe thing and then proceeded to LITERALLY exit, stage left. She took off like a shot across my neighbor's lawn, ran into the dark of the greenbelt on the corner of the street....and vanished.

A few moments later, my roomie comes out and says "Who are you yelling at?"

To which I replied, "A fucking Pixie. I'm going to bed."

He knew better than to ask further.

There is a LOT more to this story that has nothing to do with me. What I had seen, I would later learn after much, much study, was one of the Daoine Sidhe. The Good People. I've called her, "the Red Lady", ever since and I remember her fondly. I wish I had been more educated on the subject of the Good People at the time. I feel bad for being a bit rude to her though it was most certainly unintentional.

I just realized I hadn't answered the 3rd question.
No. No lasting effects.
Don't recall having anything in my dreams.

As far as it being aware of its surroundings, the little pane of glass in its stomach represents water (it's a water spirit or spirit from the underworld - same thing in west African cosmology). But it's also a window. So the spirit peers out from inside the figure through the glass.
Easily the creepiest thing to be around on the planet.

December of 1985 a week or two before Christmas. My father had died a few months earlier in the beginning of September. Five people witnessed the event, with one being on a upper floor of the house we lived in at the time. It was in the early evening and my older brother (18) and sister (23), and a family friend (also 18) were sitting at our dining room table playing the card game Rummy. I (13) was not feeling well and was laying on the couch in the living room. Anyway, the way the house was laid out, the dining room was to the left of the front door and living room with a set of stairs leading to the second floor was on the far wall directly across from the door entering the house. The family friend was sitting at the dining room table facing the living room and my brother and sister were sitting across from each other on either side of the friend. A green mist came through the front door, crossed the living room floor, went up the stairs and into the master bedroom. My mother, who was on the second floor in the master bedroom came flying down the stairs saying "DID YOU SEE THAT!" Yes, was the answer from everyone present and complete disbelief and awe was felt by everyone. The family friend was the first to see it, and then my siblings, myself and mother. Afterward the family friend refused to use the front door to enter our house for at least a year.  My mother moved my middle brother and me into the master bedroom shortly afterward. I had nightmares for weeks in the room and refused to sleep in there. The house was a new build in 1977. We don't know what it was, but everyone thought maybe dad was coming home from work. He worked off shifts and that was his pretty regular routine once he came home.

There were some minor things that continued to happen after my mother met a deadbeat guy around 1986 and he moved in. My brothers and I hated this guy and we did everything we could to make him miserable. But, my mother stayed with this clown up until 1993 or 1994. Once he was gone things stopped. A few years later (around 1992) some things happened at my oldest brother's house, once again at Christmas time with toys moving by themselves. None of it was frightening. It was just weird and makes you think a little about what really happens after we die. I have always wondered if dead people watch us in the shower or taking a dump...

Also, many years later my family and I were in a Coach store as the women were looking at purses. I was sitting on the bored guy couch they have positioned at the front of their stores and heard "That guy right there, was there when it happened, It was his house. Tell her what happened" I looked up from my phone and it was the family friend and his wife. He had told her the story and she thought he was nuts. I told her what had occurred and she said that was exactly wheat he had told her. I guess we're both nuts to her now.

Not really a story, but the most freaked out and creepy feeling I have ever has was in the woods around the Gettysburg Virginia monument at night time. Every hair on my body was standing straight up on end and it felt like a thousand eyes were staring at me at once. I couldn't wait to get back to the car. Devil's Den and the Triangular field are pretty cool at night there. Lots of creep factor.

One time I was about 9-10, we were visiting my Grandma and Grandpas house in NC. We had been there numerous times before and would again later in life.

This time I was using the back bathroom. I sat on the throne and read my comic until I was all finished.

I got up, flushed and was walking out when someone I thought I heard someone say something.

I turned around and a women with her hair up in a bun, black horn rimmed glasses, a blue shirt with a white lacy collar and an apron on kinda waved at me!

I freaked the fuck out and ran out of the house to where my family was relaxing on the porch.

I told them what happened and my grandma remarked, of that's just Lou (her mother long dead), she stops by from time to time.

She then went and got a photo album and showed me pictures of her I had never seen in my life. In one she was wearing the blue and white lace shirt with an apron while in a kitchen. I NEVER used that bathroom again!

Years later my wife and I go to visit family up there and we stay in the house (now vacant as my grandparents had passed). Our dog WOULD NOT go in that bathroom or 2 of the bedrooms in that house! He would just stand there and growl with all his back hair standing up.

How embarrassing knowing great-grandma was watching you drop a deuce from beyond the grave. Respect of privacy must not be a high priority for ghosts.

My mother died in 2015, and I hadn’t been to her house since then until about two weeks ago to start clearing out some of her belongings. Most of which were boxed up and brought to my house to store, so it wasn’t like they were being thrown out. The house is pretty much closed up and no one lives there. So my brother and I are downstairs looking thru some of her plates when all of a sudden we hear what sounds like someone jump off the bed, then take about six fast pace steps in what was her room. We both assume another brother had come and had went up stairs first. I stepped outside and noticed no ones vehicle was there but mine. Confused, we walk up stairs and check her room. No one is there and nothing is out of place. I could find no logical explanation for the noise. Whatever it was was heavy and felt startled or panicked.

Yeah, from personal experience after about 5 months much less 5 years of visible abandonment word gets around and you're going to have squatters unless you make serious precautions. Someones nap got disrupted.

Mine was when I was a teenager I slept on a waterbed that was basically a water filled mattress in a pine box frame and there was barely enough room between the mattress and the wood frame get a bottom sheet on it.

One night in a half woke state it felt like my top sheet and blanket were coming off, or being pulled off of me, like when you toss an turn and have to pull your covers back over you, I pulled them back and fell back to sleep. The next morning I woke up with no blanket or top sheet, I remember looking around on the sides of the bed thinking they some how fell off the bed when I noticed part of them sticking out between the head of the bed frame and the mattress, that they were stuffed down between the mattress and the head of the pine box frame.

The thing is it would take some pretty good leverage and cause considerable water motion to force back the mattress away from the head of the bed frame to create enough space stuff a sheet and comforter inside it, add that it was just to the left of my pillow where my head was and it makes it all the more strange.

Hobo would be easier to accept. I had already been upstairs for a couple of hours boxing up shit and going in and out of the closets -- So probably was the debil. Either the inside stairs or the stairs from the deck would have ran right past us to get out. The stomping stopped about the middle of the second floor in the hallway.

Nothing had been messed with inside the house. There was plenty of stuff a hobo would have stolen and pawned if they were in there.

Well no other option then. Definitely paranormal. Lack of any defining evidence proves its paranormal. Thats how this works.

I think it was in the creepy thread.
