I'm up near Bridgeport and the one I have is broken, cracked, the metal edge is falling off...
It is a straight handle and the snow sticks to it like it has separation anxiety, tried cooking spray, no joy. My other option is an tiny avalanche shovel. |

I think a tier 1 shovel has 2 stages and runs on gasoline. Actual shovels are for the last 5 minutes of clearing the stairs or whatever and honestly, anything is fine at that point.

I have a 48" one of these I use for pushing the snow out to where I can get it with the skid steer. The 48" is the largest one, they also make a 24", 28", 30", and a 36" all of the parts are replaceable. Flipping the shovel over it works well as a scraper.
I also have one of the "Dominator" shovels for smaller areas or when I have to throw snow. I need to get one more of these. Manufacturers website: https://www.jmenterprises.com/ They also sell them at Northern tool, Ace Hardware, Hardware Hank, True Value, ACME tools, maybe others. They have a retail locator on their website. |

Even in parts of the country where regular snow shovels are not available in stores, Tractor Supply and like stores will have grain scoops available. Last one I bought was at Tractor Supply in Deland, FL so I'd have a good shovel with me on a trip back home through a predicted 8-10 inches of snow. I had to use it the next morning to get out after our overnight stop in NC. |

I have a heavy metal shovel for ice and a light weight plastic one for everything else.
What kind you need is going to depend on the amount of snow you get at once. Bigger and heavier isn’t always the answer. |

I’ve got one of the S handle type because the straight handled ones are too short and I’m bent over the whole time I use one.

Especially if you get a good one that's oak and steel, not pine and aluminum Aluminum will get the edge fucked up in a hurry, which is why you want steel. Mine's been in use 15 years and counting. Cleaned up the edge two or three times over the years with a grinder. |

Either my John Deere with a 6 foot blade or my Polaris Northstar with it’s snowplow…

If you have a larger driveway or area to do
get a snow plow shovel to push the crap to do this you need to stay on top of it and make sure its no more than like 2 or 3 inches of shit to push if you go a long distance to push I have a 4 footer of those also get a snow joe for tossing the white shit that extra handle helps from bending over to throw I have one of these too Or just fire up the leaf blower if you got a decent one and blow the shit |
|
I want a shovel that has the blade on an angle like a snowplow truck.

Don't miss it one bit.
When I was younger I would push the snowplow type ones, hit a chunk of ice and the handle would always seem to hit me in the dick. |
|
Just don't shovel that shit into my yard. I fucking can't take it anymore.

Got mine at NAPA. A poster above mentioned wanting to use a shovel that is angled, well you can angle this thing. I also use plastic grain scoop from Ace Hardware to move large volumes of light snow. |

NON-metal edge. Like the Dominator posted above. I like the ones from Lowes that style, red handle with black scoop. No metal edge to catch and bust your wrist.

I have two of these. They've moved a whole lot of snow and I still like them. I wax the blade a few times per season with Turtle Wax - same stuff you'd use to wax your car.

A pusher type for light snow and grain type for moving deep stuff or piles. I like to use the pusher several times per storm when I can. When convenient I like being outside and shoveling. Otherwise I use the blower and cleanup with the two other shovels.

I never did find one I loved, when I lived in Ohio.
Left it in the garage, too. As it happened, I just couldn't find any room for it on the moving truck. |
