Never noticed it before in the 4 years I've rented here. It's hot glued right above the door. It's 1" long. There's nothing in the door right below it.

Thoughts?

That's probably a half assed redneck alarm sensor.

Most are magnetically actuated.

Looks like clear coat on the door is ripped up right below it making me think the sensor was double sided taped to the door.

Is it a magnet? If so may be part of a security system. Stick on wireless door contact is gone.

Looks like a dowel pin. I'm guessing it was part of a homebrew alarm system that worked with a magnet attached to the door right under it.

Probably a magnet for a makeshift door sensor or an alarm. Those are cheap from amazon and the hall effect sensor is easily removable. Either that or an alien probe...We are not alone.
