If you could be given any car, what would it be?

Here are the rules (cause everyone likes rules, right?),

1. You are financially responsible for maintaining the car, gas, insurance, repairs etc. The car was free but nothing else.
2. You cannot sell the car to buy a cheaper car and have money left over.
3. This is a car that you would drive to enjoy and not just look at the damn thing.
4. A car that you would have in your possession for the rest of your life.

My wife and I make a good living but if someone gave me a Porsche 918, I'd have to sell it, could never afford to keep it.

My pick, Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS. The last of the Mezger built engine 911s and before they went to electric steering. I've not driven one of these but they look and sound amazing.

Love the McLarens but they're reliability and maintenance costs scare me.

I’d like to have my 78 chevy monza with 350 back that my brother totalled.

Or I’d go for a comet with police package.

I am pretty happy with this:  pretty much as fast as a GT3, but more comfortable for every-day driving.

Yeah, as I get older, not sure how a GT3 RS would be to DD, I'm told they are very stiff.

'67 or '68 Mercury Cougar for me.

Either that or an early Bronco (rust issues notwithstanding)

Yeah but it's yellow.

In keeping with the thread I'd also pick a Porsche Turbo. I'm honestly not sure what year. The turbos always seem to hold up the best, as we've seen with them avoiding the IMS bearing. I think the newer the better as far as future parts availability goes, but an older manual one would tick all the boxes.

2015 Scion FR-S Release Series 1.0, with a manual transmission. I love the screaming yellow paint.

Since I have to maintain it and provide for the insurance, this is the best I can do. But it's still a cool car.

Given the criteria (which eliminates some really fun cars, but fair enough), I'd choose something big, ugly and slow but fun.

Something like this would be a hoot:

While not my “dream car”, a practical dream car (if you will) for me would be a ZL1 1LE.  Fast as hell and plenty capable of being a DD, coupled with easy maintenance and parts availability.

I’d probably hit a snag on the budget for tire replacement however.

That’s my impression.  The whole GT2, GT3 and GT3RS lineup of cars seem like they would be awesome to take to a track, but a lot less comfortable to just go for a nice drive in.  Something like a GTS or a Turbo seems like it is “fast enough” for anything you want, but still a somewhat reasonable daily driver.  I use the GTS as a daily driver, so it’s all about driving to work, going to the grocery store and post office, etc.  ... but it is still a ridiculously fast car, if you want to use it that way, or take it to a track.

"Dream Car" seems to change over the decades.  I had a 911 in the 80's in SoCal and at the time I thought it fit the bill pretty well.  Fast-forward 30+ years and what I consider "fun" now differs greatly from what I did for fun back then.  The remote streams I go to fish now require 4WD, high-clearance, significant payload, and all sorts of things a 911 isn't capable of.  If I still had my 911, I'd just sell it as it no longer fits my lifestyle even though it was my 'dream car' back in the day.

I just eye-fucked one of these on the Bentley used car lot in Charlotte. (I was in the Hilton next door, not shopping...) White over red. 2019 stickered for $179k.

Not a cab fan but it was pretty sexy.

Me, I’m a coupe guy. GT3 Touring.
