I guess it would depend on your definition of cool.

I had a 68 Mustang. 289 with a 3-speed on the floor. All original in fantastic condition. My best friend had a 79 Bronco. 351 with a 4 inch lift. Another friend had a restored 69 Boss. 2 incredibly pampered little rich girls had Ferraris from daddy. Johnny Miller’s(the pro golfer) son drove a Conquest TSI. I think we had the most fun in the Bronco.

I still get a little irritated when I think about this one.

One kid was kind of a spoiled prick.

Dad bought him a real 60's Shelby GT350. White with the blue stripe, knock off hub wheels, etc..

Absolutely gorgeous car.

This was high school in the mid 90's too and the GT350 was not cheap.

A few months later I walk by it in the parking lot.

Dirty, dents, McDonalds and other fast food wrappers all over the floor, like fries on the floor and passenger seat, stains on the seats, etc...

And worst of all, he had cut the vertical shelf behind the rear seats to stuff in 2 10" subwoofers.

Looked like he used a hacksaw to cut the holes too. A bunch of gaps and off center.

Broke my heart.

I couldn't care less he was given the car, it was just the fact he had zero respect for it.

Class of 74.
I had a 64 Impala SS.  It had a 283 2bbl and was probably the slowest car in the lot. It looked cool though.
A 1969 428 Cobra Jet Torino. The guy who owned it street raced it in four counties and made his car and insurance payments every month. His bit was to put a $100 bill on the dash and tell the passenger he could have it if he could snatch it off the dash when he came off the line. No one ever collected.  Right after graduation he got married and sold the car. We were all sad.
A 1971 Mustang 429 Cobra Jet. The car was fast but the guy who owned it was scared to death of it. He sold it right before graduation and bought a 1973 gold Super Beatle VW with a sunroof. We dogged him unmercifully.
A 1969 Fastback 390 Mustang. Another brutally fast car but he got married before school was out and sold it.
A 1963 GMC pickup with a three on the tree and a six-cylinder. The guy that owned it would always keep a set of worn-out mud grips on it and that sumbitch would lay rubber for as long as he kept his foot in it.
One girl drove a 1971 Jeep Commando wagon. It was her Dad's farm 4-wheel drive. She hated it and we all wanted to drive it as bad as we wanted to get into her pants. ( a story for another day) She ended up with a 71 Thunderbird.
A 69 Road Runner, a 70 AMC Ambassador, a 71 Maverick, a 68 Impala, a couple of early 70s Monte Carlos, and a couple of random Pintos.
Pretty standard for any school in the area at the time.

Class of '82.  My car, while nice, did not make the cut...  It was a '74 Lincoln Continental.

1978 Trans Am.  Burt Reynolds Black
Vega panel delivery wagon with a 350 and a 4 speed.
Buick Electra convertible.  Gold with a gold interior.

But the winner was a girl I ran around with who had a Shelby GT 500KR convertible.  Red.  She sold it to pay for law school.

I've had a couple of nice motorcycles but have yet to own a car that is a real winner.

When I started high school (10th grade) somebody in grade 12 drove an old Corvair with a SBC residing where the back seat was supposed to be.
Turned out his father was an avid drag racer and the Corvair was a father/son project.

That was the coolest drive to school car I ever saw.

1935 Chevrolet Master De Luxe 4 door sedan
206 cubic inch in-line 6 cylinder engine with a single barrel downdraft carburetor, cooling via a brass radiator and belt driven water pump that had a  packing nut to tighten periodically to prevent cooling system leaks.  Knee action shock absorber suspension, mechanical brakes: no hydraulics here just leverage and cables, 3 speed transmission with a 3 foot long shift lever.  Manual choke and a throttle cable, too.  Foot actuated starter button or if you had extra time remove the cover from the access point in the grill and put your crank through it to connect with the crankshaft and turn it over manually by hand. The six volt battery was located under the wooden floor on the if front of the front passenger seat.  Suicide doors created the easiest car to get into ever devised.  Radio antennas were mounted under the running boards, mohair seat covers had you constantly itching.  Metal body nailed on a wooden body frame and  large rolling fenders, 6 bolt 16" artillery wheels and tires that held air thanks to inner tubes.  Speedometer was marked to 100 MPH, I never had the car going that fast, although I did take it up to 75 MPH once.

One kid's mom died our senior year and he got a Viper.
He didn't have it very long but I always think of that one.

The more realistic, less "unique situation" answer is a Mitsubishi Eclipse.  2000/2001 I'm guessing, in that burnt orange color.  He had a subwoofer enclosure that took up the whole back.

The import/tuner thing was just taking off in this area, the original Fast and the Furious movie was just about to come out.  So yeah that car was peak "17 year old kid in 2000".

Rural school. Old pick-up truck of all sorts.
One of the students had a father that was a Jeep guy. He had a original Willys jeep that was straight out of 1944 that got driven to school now and then.
It even had the shovel and axe bolted on the side. White star. The works.
Might not of been the fastest thing but I thought it was cool as hell. Still do.

Small school, many years ago, an upperclassman had a 1969 Shelby Mustang. I rode in it once or twice. {We went to the same church}

He still has it, last I heard, but I recall hearing there has been some controversy over it being a "real" Shelby car. Something about the provenance or paperwork...... I'm not sure of the details. Anyway, it's supposedly a sore point with him, and since I don't live there anymore, I have kind of lost track.

It was a cool car, no matter what it was.
Pic of similar car from the web.

Mint condition 68 Cougar.

79 Buick Regal. Solid black with dark tint with a 350 Rocket in it with a TON of motor and transmission work. Tires would expand like a Top Fuel dragster.

Class of 94

Amidst the sea of Volvos in the student parking lots, the aspirant rich bought their kids Fox body Mustang GTs, and there were a lot of them. A few Mercedes and a Porche here and there. Surprisingly few Camaros or Trans Ams, which were thought of as the vehicle of choice for the rednecks, grits, and Vo-Tech kids at lesser schools. One girl had a beautiful 66 Mustang, and though she was rather homely, the car certainly helped her social life.

I was a candidate for the least coolest car at my high-school, with a turd-brown 79 Datsun Sentra that my father used to refer to from time to time as 'birth control' because it definitely wasn't going to help me with the ladies.
