Quoted: Doesn't he just play John Wayne in all his movies? Not really a fan of his work, but I don't care if others like him. View Quote For the most part yes, and he freely admitted it on several occasions. He realized early on his public expected a certain persona from him and he was smart enough not to stray far from it. He was a "Star" not an actor. Not the only one by any means. |

The Searchers
Best Character the Duke ever played, Epic storyline & supporting cast, a masterpiece on film. |

Quoted: Rio Grande It's not just my favorite John Wayne movie, it is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's got everything! War, cavalry, Indians, love, tragedy, children in danger, drunken Irishmen, music and singing, fistfights, a rebellious teenager. Love it. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/1715/84149.JPG View Quote I'll take The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence over The Searchers, though both are outstanding. In Harm's Way is fantastic ask me next year and I'll probably have a different answer |

Quoted: One of the few movies he was in where he actually acted. A classic. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: The Searchers. Ethan Edwards was a complex character which Wayne ably portrayed. One of the few movies he was in where he actually acted. A classic. Possibly his best supporting cast as well. A great movie all around. 'ETA and Red River is way up there as well. |

I like most of his films, I think I like Hellfighters because it's set in "modern times" 1968. Donovan's Reef for probably the same reason (1963).
I know the 1960's is know for the era of free love and dirty hippies, but conservative American life was still the way for a lot of folks. I didn't like Brannigan, I dunno, maybe because his character was too much of an old fart. And it's 1975. We started having Avocado green appliances and drinking Tang in orange vinyl kitchens. Things tried to become more "modern" but they really didn't. I never watched his Genghis Khan movie that gave everyone cancer. Literally. Go look it up. He made a shitload of stuff in the 20's, 30's and 40's you never heard of. |

Hatari!
Wild safari animals, exciting truck and jeep chase scenes, stupendous landscapes, bolt actions. Shaped my ideas of Africa in my youth. Saw it again recently, just noticed the French/Italian slender chick with the nice ass. What's not to like? Quoted: Doesn't he just play John Wayne in all his movies? I love the Green Berets movie but I watched this movie when I was having a real shitty week and laid in bed all day/week. Don’t ask me how, but I always remember @DK-Prof mentioning this movie. I need to watch it again. |

Quoted: Quoted: We do this a lot, so I’ll just say I love almost all of them There’s a lesser known one named Island in the Sky that even Wayne fans might not have seen. It was tied up in some kind of legal issues so it didn’t make it into TV syndication where we’ve watched the others for decades. Aviation movie with a fantastic cast supporting the Duke. Recommended highly. Has James Arness & Andy DeVine also It's showed up recently on the FMC channel on Dish. https://fmc.tv/ Along with another aviation movie with the Duke, "The High and the Mighty" which was one of the influences for the "Airplane!" movies. If you are a serious old movie buff FMC has some great stuff, including "B" Westerns and a lot of silent movies. They've had some from 1918, which is just kind of mind blowing. @Richard-ar15 |

Rio Bravo, The Shootist, and The Flying Tigers.
Honorable mention to The Longest Day and How The West Was Won. Epic movies John Wayne was a cast member in but not "John Wayne movies" Also anyone that doesn't like John Wayne is a certified commie. |

Sands of Iwo Jima, because my mother is convinced she sees her father in one of the real footage landing scenes.
When I pause the scene on the bluray and compare his pic with the scene, I say...hmmmmmm maybe. She is convinced. all the rest of JW's collection is good though. |
