What is so liberal about California? The state alone is in the top ten world's economy. If it wasn't for the big city thinkers from California the US as a whole wouldn't be a military or economic superpower it is today. San Francisco is very nice and would be an awesome place to live. The standards that are in place is what keeps that city nice.
What in the Hell are you smoking? Military super-power? Please!

San Fran is not a good place to live or raise a family unless you suck dick, or hate guns, and love commies.
BTW, you left out the Presidio of San Francisco. Some pretty prime property there. It was home to the Sixth Army.
The military bases were closed in retaliation for the anti-military stance of many locals and politicians. The military took its jobs and moved elsewhere. Hard hit was Oakland which lost a lot of jobs when Alameda Naval Air Station closed down. Vallejo, home of Mare Island, was also hit hard and is one of those ten dying cities in America.
It started turning liberal in the '70s. San Francisco Mayor George Christopher invited the gheys to the city and they flocked to his call. They became a power house voting block. Mild climate also attracted the leftists, the druggies and the children of the original flower children with their f*cked up liberal mindset. A mobile, youthful (twenty something) population would come, vote in f*cked up laws, then leave. Did you know that rent control was voted down in San Francisco but then voted in by the Board of Supervisors. Domestic Partner benefits was voted down in San Francisco but then passed by the Health Board. F*ck the will of the people. PC rules.
So, in conclusion, F*ck this place. Within a year, I'm fo'ing.
