Can't stress this enough.  Have a friend whose reddit account didn't do him any favors, although I suspect you are a better man than him.  Just please be sure to cover your butt, divorce brings the worst out in people. Get a lawyer, hope it all works out for ya as best as possible.

When women "tell" the divorce they have a plan already. Cancel ALL forms of credit and make her get her own shit. Get the phones shut off and make her get her own.

I have been married for 42 years and have seen some pretty brutal shit put on my friends. Unfortunately you have to cut bait and move forward now. Just figure that you will get half of everything and the old lady is getting ready to kick your ass out as we type. If that happens shut off all utilities in your name because they will not get paid anyway.

Move your stuff out as quickly as you can as once you are served you are gone and she will sell everything she can to get cash and by the time court comes around there will be nothing left and you will get nothing as she will have spent everything.

Find a campsite and buy a van. Fuck it, do not dwell on it as you need your energy to find a sugar momma and they are out there. Keep your chin up and find that strange, your whole attitude is about to change.

Good luck brother.

I don't think you lose any SS yourself but she can piggyback off your earnings to increase hers after 10 years of marriage.

Pensions are split according to how many years you were married when you had it, if she worked and has one, it goes both ways, same for all retirement accounts.

There is a reason I didn't give that much of a "F" when I broke up with my GF a while ago, no female is going to rape me again financially when it comes to my earnings or retirement funds because of how screwed up the US divorce courts are.

You won't lose you SS if your wife starts to take her "share".

If she gets advice, she'll take part of yours on a sliding scale based on age, then take her own when she reaches full retirement age, or keep drawing on yours if that pays more.

If she never worked and doesn’t collect SS she could ask for it as spousal support. Your pension, yes and she could ask for 1/2 the cash value now.

Yes you need a lawyer.

Yup, or just miserable.

Every one of my unmarried aunts has tried to get their other married sisters divorced out of sheer envy and spite.

It's been so blatant that it actually opened the eyes of many sisters who had sided with the divorced sisters over their BILs.

Misery loves company.

Prayers up for you Brother.

Similar thing happened to me after 30  years marriage.

We both had separate Attorneys but all they did was the paperwork.
My ex and I worked out our split in a very amicable manner.

Our assets and business stuff was quite large but we did agree to a simple 50/50 split.

Despite what some here may encourage you to do, THIS is the time to treat her in a
loving and respectful manner.

If she's a wretched woman that is unwilling to work with you than that will be the time
to fight.

Until such time OP keep working on getting back together if there is any chance whatsoever.

Good Luck OP.

Why look at it that way?
Find someone that is more inline with your financial goals.

If they make near amount of money as you and bring similar assets to the table why would that still shut your heart down from loving again?

My ex-step dad and his current "wife" are the same. Live in the same house with separate rooms. Still travel together, in separate rooms. Funny situation, but it works for them. I think they're just really good friends at this point, but nothing romantic. Both are smart enough to know a divorce would kill them financially.

OP, sorry man. That's rough. My wife and I both agree that divorces crush you financially. I think we'd work damn hard to work our shit out before divorcing. By your age we hope to be floating around the world on permanent vacation.
