Only states that have had problems with cousin marriage have laws against cousin marriage.

I have two cousins that are technically brother and sister.
They met, married, and then her Dad and his Mom met and married. All very legal, but makes for an interesting story. |

Even today a third cousin isn’t considered too close genetically but for perspective, your third cousin and you share the same grandparents on one of your parents sides. You first cousin is basically your fuckin sister. |

This is a mildly interesting topic for me. I am not aware of any first-cousin marriages among my family, friends, or neighbors; not that it's any of my business.
In her geneaology research, my mom found several instances of "double cousins" in past generations - First cousins who share both sets of grandparents. It was a lot more common in the past when a lot of people lived in isolated small towns. Marrying your double cousin would be doubleplus super bad genetically, maybe. I have only one female first cousin (out of a total of nine first cousins). She's considerably younger than I am, and not of interest to me other than sharing family yore and pictures of weddings, holidays, children, and pets. |

Quoted: Lived here in Bama for four decades. I've only known of one actual first cousin marriage. That couple immigrated from England just to do so. View Quote So Downton Abbey got that right? Of course they did, it’s not a secret that there has been inbreeding amongst European nobility for some time. For what it’s worth, I remember reading that the chance for birth defects amongst offspring of first cousins is very low. |

Quoted: Everyone has that ONE cousin. View Quote I have one female STEP-cousin who would be the one. Very attractive and intelligent. But our parents kept us under their thumbs, so the most intense interaction I ever had with her was a card game of War (using several decks) that lasted over five hours. She's happily married now and has two grown kids. I'm actually glad that we never had an opportunity to be alone together in our teens. Now I can see her at family reunions, funerals, etc. and everything is totally cool. |

She had some issues with drugs, and most definitely was not my cousin. |

Quoted: How can you NOT know you are FIRST cousins unless one or both were adopted and learned via a mail in DNA test? View Quote My understanding is that the parents of both had not any contact with the other parents whatsoever. Did not even if the other sibling was even alive or had any children So when they met the husband had a different last name and the wife had a common last name for the area. They only put two and two together when their parents decided to reestablish contact |
