Low voltage guy here. My 3 most used (aside from electrical tape and zip ties):
DeWalt 20V 1/4” Impact Driver Irwin Vise Grip 8” Wire Strippers/Cutter Whichever precision screwdriver is in my pocket. I’ve broken several Klein ones lately, so now it’s usually either a Wiha or one from a dollar bin at the hardware shop. My favorite: Toss up between the DeWalt rotary hammer and Dremel. Both are huge time savers depending on what’s going on. |

Tape measure, 15 in 1 screwdriver, impact driver. I'm a Carpenter/Contractor.
Truck
Tape Measure Notepad I'm not a fan of any of them really, but the truck isn't bad. |
10mm socket.
Phillips head screwdriver. Pliers. Favorite tool: my grandfather's chain wrench, which I've used once but I'll never get rid of it. |
Today my favorite tool was a tap wrench.
I always thought the impact driver was stupid, until I bought one. I use it all the time now when working on yard equipment/ small engines. |
smart phone
flashlight pocket knife Never leave home without them. |
M12 Fuel Installation Drill, Klein multi-bit driver, and Knipex mini cobra pliers. (Handyman)
The installation drill with 90 degree and offset attachments really kicks ass. Fits in my hand better than any other drill, more control with the high grip. |
I author knowledge
1. Excel + Formulas + PowerQuery to process data 2. Sharepoint for Team document work collaboration/publishing of knowledge 3. Huge (43") 4K display monitor = lots of pixels and large size. |
11 in 1 screw driver, Dewalt 12v 601 Dewalt screw driver, pencil
My favorite new toy is a cordless band saw. I use it more than I thought I would |
Pocket knife
16’ fat max tape measure Pencil Favorite, Festool domino Finish carpentry |
My m18 mid torque, my m12 stubby impact and my 1/4” high speed ratchet. Cordless technology is astonishing, and id pick the mid torque, never did i think a 3/8” cordless impact would be my go to for lugs, as i mainly work on 3/4-1 tons.

ROF here and I use Channel Locks more than anything. Today I whipped out from scratch a pull behind the mower "aerator" which entailed a fair amount of welding. The Channel Locks REALLY speed things up because they don't care how hot something is. Next would be a 16' tape measure. After that I have 2400 sq. ft. of toolage to pick from.

6 way screwdriver
Channel locks Fluke Pipefitter that works on pumps and air compressors |
At work: 1" travel dial indicators (I use five on different bases for different applications), Mitutoyo micrometer set 0-1" through 11"-12" (the 5" to 6" ones get the most use out of that set), Monarch 20" x 48" lathe---followed closely by a 32" x 96" Microcut lathe. The Monarch Lathe is my favorite of those. She was built in 1951.
Whoops. I forgot about the two pocket knives that i carry. I use those at work and at home (and about) probably the most. But, I don't consider them my favorite, they just live there in my pocket. At home: desktop computer, pocket knives, and a fork. Since I spend the most time on the desktop, that will likely be my favorite. Recreation: FX Dreamline air-rifle, FWB 300S air rifle, High pressure air tanks (both SCBA at 4500 psi, and SCUBA at 3000 psi to fill my PCP airguns). Here, the Dreamline is my favorite but the FWB 300S is a close second. (The FWB 300S is recoiless spring air rifle for 10 meter competition.) |
7" Knipex Cobras
Fluke T5-1000 Klein cabinet tip flathead Honorable mention: 8" Proto crescent wrench Gedore dykes Extech magnetic coil tester |
Attached File
Use these every night at work. Favorite is the middle one, made it myself out of stainless steel, it’s used for opening 4, 5 & 6 gallon pails with screw on caps but can also open 55 gallon drums. I call it the rhino tool. Also made the left one, simply a bent section of keyway with some tubing for a handle used to pop metal and plastic caps off pails and drums. |
Multimeter
Wire stripper Lineman’s pliers Favorite is odd. A standard paint can opener. That thing has saved my ass in the most random problems many times over. OP why are you using electrical tape? Can you not use the white nylon crimp caps? |
Crescent-hammer (aka “all 16ths”)
11 in 1 screw driver Fluke -Mike |
Needlenose pliers have to be about the handiest tool I have
Irwin linemans pliers get used a lot I use my leaf blower a ton to blow out the garage and driveway. |
M12 Fuel impact driver
Harbor freight tape measure Harbor freight screwdrivers |
Hammer, scissors and paper.
Scissors is something I use daily. |
12" pry bar
Knipex cobras Dewalt flexvolt recip saw My favorite is my Metabo HPT nt50ae2 Brad nailer. Never understood why Norm Abrams used a Brad nailer on every project until I bought a decent one. |
Hammer and a screwdriver. Just kidding. No, seriously, just kidding.
Multimeter, amp probe, pressure gauges. Can you guess what I'm doing with those? EDIT: Actually, 4 in 1 screw drivers, cordless drills, 3/8in ratchet wrenches with a 10mm socket probably get used more than every other tool in my shop. |
duct tape-if it moves and isn't supposed to
wd 40- if it doesn't move and is supposed to hammer-if it still doesn't move |

I drove hundreds of self drilling metal screws and then built 20+ benches that required hundreds of 3” deck screws. My Dewalt impact driver got a heck of a workout. I also bought an Evolution Power Tools 14 in. Steel Cutting Chop Saw that made cutting all the steel tubing very easy. It also cut PVC and wood. |

Laptop, Fluke multi-meter, Stanley claw hammer with a really long claw.
I have a line of Makino A81s.
But as time goes by, I appreciate the competent simplicity of a Bridgeport mill. I learned how to run one when I was 14 and I can't imagine life without one. |
