IIRC recently voted Whiskey of the year by some place (it got bonus points for actually being available!)

Regular old black label Jack Daniels. Same taste, every time.

Sometimes I like the single barrel, sometimes it's just meh. Every bottle isn't the same. That's the point. If you like that, great, but I prefer the classic flavor.

I decided to rotate through the "Olds"  Old Crow, Very Old Barton, Old Granddad ... can't say I was overly impressed.

Are there different variants of Old Crow?
View Quote
Yeah.  Not many different expressions(if any) in recent years, but that one is a 10 year aged, bottled in 1969, and is widely regarded as the best, or one of best bourbons ever made.

Aside from that, things like old grandad-  if you try one from the 60s or 70s there is just no comparison to what is being made today.  It’s fantastic stuff.

It was hand select single barrel. You better come here if you want some. Only a few bottles left. I've bought 2 so far.  I should go get a few more.

Yeh those 120 proof KC single barrel reserve/selects are a really fantastic value.  I’ve got a couple in the 14 year range, and they are really good.

Does it have the banana taste that the small batch has?

I have had a couple different store pics of those and both were great.

Next time I see some I will buy more than one bottle.

I have had just about all their offerings and won't buy any more.

IMO the full proof was just tolerable.

Whiskey is subjective and I know a lot of folks like it but I will pass from now on.

Weller 107 but since it's usually not on the shelves, I've decided to try something I do still see on the shelves from time to time and it is definitely a worthy substitute.

I'm a little leery of disclosing my new goto brand for fear it will become hard to find too but it rhymes with bear treed.

I agree. It's pricey but good. Over the Holidays I drank a bottle of Jack Daniels Rye and it was almost as good at less than half the price.

I’d love to try that some day.  Wish they sold it outside of Kentucky.

I don't dislike it but it just doesn't stand out to me as being anything special, flavor-wise. Won't buy it again but also wouldn't turn a glass down if offered.

Jimmy Russell says he tastes every barrel of this.  I’m going to guess the lack of cold-filtering really made a difference or Mr. Russell had a bad cold.
