Iirc, it's some of my streamlights that say warranty void if you use rechargeable 123's.

RCR123 = 3.7V Nominal, 4.2v hot off the charger
LiFePO4 123A = 3v nominal, 3.2v off the charger

Most devices made for CR123 primaries (non-rechargeable batteries) will work with LiFePO4 123A batteries (same 3v, some may be 3.2v), but especially the ones that use 2 batteries (like Streamlight's lights and light+laser devices), the difference between 6v and the 8.2v hot off the charger with 2x RCR123, can fry shit (fried the laser diode on my Streamlight ).

The biggest downside to rechargeable CR123 is the lower energy density/capacity (and consequently, significantly reduced runtimes).

A Lithium Primary CR123A is ~1500 mAh.

The LiIon (LCO/LMO, ICR/IMR) chemistries are about 750mAh.

The LiFePO4 123A are about 450mAh.

That's also why 1x18650 lights have better runtimes than 2x CR123 lights (3500mAh for the best 18650s).

I’ve got a Modlite 18350 that is impressive as fuck. Next light will be an 18650 OKW.

At work I use a streamlight microstream because I can get AAAs from the vending machine with a badge swipe

Lol, what light is that?

I got a Convoy M3-C with extender in 3k and a couple of those queen batteries from Aloft.

I am not trying to debate your favorite old style lights, but pointing out how cheaply you can upgrade your light needs.

I have a $20 amazon flashlight that uses 18650 batteries. It's called an Ultrafire WF-502b and it uses Surefire p60 compatible lamps.

I almost hate to admit it, but I love it so much that I carry it as my EDC and my Surefire's don't even leave the house anymore.

Anyone wanting to try one, I would suggest to only purchase the single mode model.

Thanks I just ordered one. I have had good luck with original Ultrafire flash lights.

I have an older MCU WF-900L that has been Bulletproof for 10 to 12 years. It has a 5 Mode switch that has never gave me trouble with good batteries. I just ordered four of these
Obtronic 18650 for it and the Ultrafire WF-502b I just ordered.

It looks like many manufacturers are eliminating 18650 only lights.  Replacing them with 21700 lights and adapters to use 18650 and or 2 Cr123’s.

Win/Win!

Hadn’t really been paying attention. NiteCore has some really cool stuff! Now wanting to try 21700.

I've been known to have a few.  Along with CR123, 22650, 21700, 10440, 10180, 14500, and some proprietary ones as well.

Mostly cuz when i used to buy flash lights a few years ago, every 5 minutes a NEWER BETTER MORE POWERFUL MODEL! would come out, it was just so much double dipping. After a while its pointless to try to keep up.

I just picked up a couple for black Friday. Nice, but I wish someone would make a simple on/off LED flashlight that's doesn't have brightness levels and strobe mode.

can anyone recommend some 16650 batteries?  I've got a few older flashlights that i've updated to LED's, but the internal diameter isnt wide enough for an 18650.

like some surefire 6p's or Pelican M6's

Orbtronic is what you seek. I use them in my older Surefire 6P’s with no problems. I think they made from Panasonic cells.

I've been using 16650's from Keeppower (last purchased in Nov '21), with built-in micro USB charging port, as well as a few older ones without the USB capability, and all without any issues.

You can buy rechargeable lithium 16650 batts and put them in those Surefires.

16 is mm of diameter
650 is cold cranking amps.
Naw, the 650 is 65mm length.

2011 called and wants your post back.

The current latest-greatest is 21700, about 5,000 mAh capacity versus 3,000 mAh.

Get a Malkoff head with a 21mm MD2 body, great runtime and plenty of lumens.

21700 are too fat. For an EDC or weapon light the 18650 is as big as I want to go. Really rather a AA sized light max for EDC.

Somebody needs to make a good 18650 dual beam LEP.

The new flashlights will run for Days.   Most have CR123 backwards compatibility.

For the price of a dozen 123’s you can have a light that is rechargeable.

I stayed away from them for years.  The maglites were good enough for me (I thought.)

Without going through the history I'll tell you that all four of my vehicles have 18650 lights in the console or driver's door pocket.

I have them on two AR15 carbines.

I have them in both hurry up, grab the bag out of the car and gun into the woods (or buildings) bags.

I have one in the bedroom, one in the kitchen, one in my shed and one in the bathroom.

Will I buy more?  I don't know, maybe, if I feel like I need one or two more for some reason or other.

You just about got me to go on an E35 v3.0

But… reviews say:
Too hot too quick in turbo mode
Clumsy switch which requires many clicks and hold for mode changes
(Lock of function works great however)

I need an EDC. Think I’ll find a Streamlight with the 10 tap and 18650 / cr123 compatibility.

I was really close to FO on the fenix.
