I got 5 numbers out of 6 which made me split with 15 others in the state that got 5 out of 6, which my net was about 3100 bucks.
Strangely...that was almost the amount for my tuition , books, and dorm fees, my GI BILL was coming in very very late and I really needed it. |

Tech I worked with won just over 11 million. Took the lump sum and after taxes ended up having 4-5 million left. Bought his parents a modest house, car, and put them some money in the bank. Bought a couple hundred acres, a modest house, a nice truck, and a bass boat. Spends most of his time fishing bass tournaments and during the winter ice fishing tournaments.
I have visited him twice since then. Lives well within in his means. |

I've got a friend who's grandma won about $50 million... EVERYone in the family immediately quit their jobs and my friend dropped out of school... They each were given a portion of granny's winnings... They bought expensive toys and spent foolishly... Best I can gather is they're all broke now as entire family has in past couple years reentered the work force with crappy jobs... And nothing to show for it.

Childhood friend from next door won a 1 million dollar scratch off ticket. He got like $680k after taxes and his brother told me he pretty much pissed it away in just a few years. So much for his retirement or his two kids college fund.

skinny little black dude at the bank yesterday had a big wad of 100's ...said he nailed a jackpot at the casino night before.
Chick in class hit TWO $25K jackpots in one month. She & the hubby no longer "work" they play the casino's. Another dude at school thinks nothing of dropping a grand at the black jack table. Guy I went to school with, his father split a multimillion jackpot with co-workers. Buddy ended up with a new car, new house. Never saw much of him after that. Couple of distant relatives fell into substantial inheritances. Never hear from them. Guy I worked with used to hit the casino's after paydays. Ended up borrowing a lot of money from co-workers to pay the bills. I'm Irish and I've been damned lucky in this life but damned sure will not bet my wages in a game of chance when I know the odds are whacked against winning. |

I'm not a gambler but several of my co-workers frequent casinos. Not the lottery, I know, but one of them won over $7,000 playing nickel slots over the Christmas holiday. Crazy.

I have a friend who's parents won $44 million. He'll work about 3 months a year and live off the money they give him. He complains about how hard his life is living in a free house with 3 new vehicles and playing video games all day.

I asked him one time when it was becoming obvious that he was going to outspend what he won, why he didn't put some away early on and he basically said "I never would have gotten to live like this if I hadn't won, I might get hit by a bus tomorrow so why not enjoy it today, and look at all the people I have been able to help because I won" Thats how he wanted to spend HIS money I guess. Guess you never make mistakes huh? |

My cousin won $75k in a scratch off game. They visited my parents and slept in my bed (while I was there and I had to sleep out in the camp). I win a few grand now and again when we go down to the casinos, but it is generally spent by the time we leave on rooms, food, etc.

There are very few who win the mega millions who don't lose it all. One guy who was a senator from CT I think. And he was fine. He just saved it. But most others are dead or bankrupt
Kinda like pro football players. Most have no money. They spend it all. One NFLer bought a fur coat. In the espn show he said I live In Miami what do I need a fr coat for?? But I have money and my friends are buying furs so I bought a fur coat Money is a sickness to those who come into it quickly |

I won $100 dollars once.
The next day every time I told someone at work I had won the lottery they asked 'The big prize?'. If I ever won one of the multi-million dollar prizes I'm going to be remembered at work as 'that guy who used to work here and just stopped showing up one day'. |

$1MM net payout would allow me to quit the job I abhor that brings so much stress in my life and look for another position elsewhere without as much concern for the salary.
$5MM would allow me the opportunity to not worry about my salary at all as we pretty much live debt free. $10MM would allow me to retire This is taking into account we both already drive nice cars, so do not need new ones; with just the 2 of us, we do not need a McMansion, nor do we desire to have one. Our retirement is well funded already, so any lottery winnings would just add to it and perhaps allow us to travel a little bit more. |

A former coworker's motherinlaw hit the megamillions about 8 or so years ago. $389mil
Split half between their two kids. They own half of Sylvana Ohio now. The gal was in PR and was the most classless/truckermouth trashtalker I ever knew. She was actually pretty funny. Because she was so brash I think she was on the verge of getting canned at work. She got the cash and paid to get her teeth fixed, bought a Mercedes and owns a store at the mall that sells nothing but olive oils

I won $10,000 on a $5 scratch off in 2009. Net winnings were $7200. It was a cool feeling.
Came in handy too because I had just taken a 37% salary cut because business sucked at the time. |

Some person here won not too long ago. Within the past decade I think. Somewhere between 3-20 mil(I'm thinking closer to the low end). I'm pretty sure they blew it all and don't have much to show for it. |

Well I know the OP said at least a million but....
I bought four Texas lottery scratch tickets early one Saturday morning in May 2009. Would you believe the first ticket I scratched was a $50,000 win...... After getting home and calling my girl friend and daughter and brother and a couple of close friends I realized I had not scratched the other three tickets. The last of the three was another $1000 winner. Say what you want about the lottery and so forth but this is what I did with my money. I remodeled my home. I bought all new furniture for my home. I put 13 grand down on a new 2009 Nissan Frontier truck (paid the balance on a two year note). I bought myself an American Security BF 6636 gun safe. I also ordered a case of PMC 380 as well as a case of 9mm S&B. I paid off $2700 worth of bills due to a knee operation. I bought my brother a new shotgun. I gave my daughter 1000k. After the smoke cleared I still had $8600 to put back in savings. Fwiw the $5 scratch ticket I won the 50k on was appropriately named Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas and heeler1 was the last of the seven winners for that game so I shut it down.
Bitch all you want about the lottery or gambling. But every now and then a God send comes down. I used mine wisely for the small amount that rained down upon me. |

usually no. A kid that worked for a friend of mine won $87,000 after taxes on Fantasy 5 , the Georgia 5 number game . he paid off bills and saved a little and bought himself a car . 1970 Buick Electra 225 that he had wanted . He did not quit his job.

The father of my then-girlfriend in high school worked with a guy who won the Texas lottery back in probably 1996. I want to say he split a 30 million pot with a few people. He worked at Dow Chemical ($$$ income) and continued working.

He didn't have THAT much money that he could afford to go around acting like a big shot and writing checks for other people. $11 million, less taxes, and paid out over 15 years just isn't that much money. Like I said in my previous post, that's barely enough money to set yourself up for life living just north of a middle class lifestyle and that's if you manage to do everything just right. The net present value of his win was probably less than five million bucks after taxes. Going around bailing out other people's houses and businesses is not something you can afford to do at that level. I'm sure he's a super nice guy, but it is what it is...stupid. |

My wife's sister once won $85,000 in the Illinois Lottery's "Little Lotto", back in the 1980s... on her very first ticket she ever bought!! They drew on Mon-Wed-Fri, she spent $3 for a week's worth of draws. She won $10 on Monday, then $85K on Wednesday.
She had to pick 5 numbers, so she played hers and her husband's B-Days, her 2 daughters' B-Days, and her cat's fricken B-Day. She picked all 5 out of 5, won the jackpot of $85K. She paid off her mortgage, paid off her 2 yr old Camaro, and gave each of her 3 sisters (my wife was one) $2K in "fun money", in cash. My wife bought me a new Browning shotgun for Christmas that year. 
I've won $5800 once on Pick 4 (straight & box), and $800 six other times, on the same Pick 4 number in a box. But I play the same number EVERYDAY, $2 per day. Been playing it for 7 years ($730 per year), so I'm about $5000 ahead. I don't play Powerball, Megamillions, scratch-offs, etc... odds are too high, even for smaller prizes. 6-way box in pick 4 my odds are about 1 in 1667 to win $800. 1 in 10,000 to win $5000... which I did. Still pretty steep odds, but I've been lucky I guess.  Every time I've won, I"ve bought a new gun... except once. That time I bought a new gun safe to keep them in. Also bought laser-rangefinder, reloading press, binoculars, goose decoys, cases of ammo. When I won the $5800, I put $4K in the bank, bought one daughter a new $500 snowblower, the other daughter a new $500 laptop.... spent the other $800 on "toys".
