Ranch Hand is the standard heavy guard in Texas. Pretty is for girly boys. The guards work on 1/2 ton frames. I think you might want a 3/4 ton or larger for their bumper and guard designs.

I have the ranch hand grill guard as standard equipment here, if you are going to really do it, get the full front replacement. It has actual structural qualities as opposed to the grill guard which is sturdy but not heavy enough to plow a deer at 60 mph. Looks good though.

Personally I think Ranch Hands look like shit. They look like they belong on a 1972 Dodge Power wagon. There are much more streamlined designs available.

This is a ranch hand on a 2500 '06 duramax. I has deflected 2 mule deer, one at 15 mph and one at 40. The one at 40 bent the right side back about .5" ,but no real damage.
I know, spelling is fubar

Serious question, what happens to your airbags ability to sense when to "go off" in an accident with those on the front of your truck? I want one bad, but my family is recovering from one bad car accident for the last 14 months (mostly my wife), and I want to make sure the airbags can still go off in an accident as necessary. Thanks. |

It's not THE BEST, but I like it. Weighs about 200 lbs.
 I've got the matching bumper in the rear. They make a version with tubular push bars. I paid $1800 for the pair. |

Had a Ranch hand Legend on a 2008 Duramax for around 3 years. It did what it was designed to do as far as deflecting wild critters. The welds on mine were OK but the powder coat was complete crap. It was flaking and falling apart within 12 months of owning it. Ended up having it sandblasted and Rhino lined which worked really well. Also had two ARB bumpers. One on a 2006 Duramax and another on a FJ80 Landcruiser. Pretty much a night and day difference between the RH and ARB. Everything about the ARB screamed quality. If both brands were sitting in front of you, the ARB would look like it was designed and built by NASA where the RH looks like it was built by a high school shops class.

FWIW, that Exp1 I posted about is no decoration. It's probably built better than an ARB, and it includes bolt on reinforcements for the frame horns. The welds are top notch, and it's all 1/4" or 3/16" structured steel.
They make one with the upper hoops to protect the top of your grille as well. One of these days somebody in a civic is going to brake check me and I'm going to drive straight on through them. |

Been looking for a while myself, and it depends on what "look" you want. I prefer the looks of Iron Bull Bumpers, I like the quality of Road Armor, but if we're talking economy, I say Road Rhino weld it yourself kits. Lots of options in lots of price ranges out their, but just because its costs a shit ton of money doesn't mean it is worth it. ARB is top quality too, but i'm just not a fan of their aesthetics on anything other than Toys, Jeeps, and Rovers. Too boxy for my tastes.
