I've been buying different brands the last few months trying to find my favorite. I have tried the following:
1. Cailler 2. Cadbury 3. Milka 4. Scharfen Berger 5. Hershey 6. Moser Roth My two favorite are Cadbury and Milka so far. They taste nearly identical. Which brand do I still need to try? |

Hershey. Born and raised on it and will always be number 1 in my book.

*real* Cadbury and toblerone. Ghirardelli too. Hershey's... Ehh.... Don't get me wrong I will eat it but it's not on the same tier as the others.

We actually did a milk chocolate blind taste test for one of my daughter's science fair experiments. Nearly everyone picked Hershey's, surprisingly, over other high-dollar stuff.
ETA - I think the texture/consistency might be what most Americans are accustomed to and expect. |

For instance, I know I need to try Lindt now. I think everyone in this thread knows it is their personal opinion. |

The U.S. version is made under license by Hershey and noticeable inferior. Also I like Lindt. Godiva is very good but to pricey for me. I'm sure there a ton of European chocolate that I have not tried that are excellent. |

Milka is awesome
than Sarotti (drove by the Factory many many times in my life while I grew up in Berlin - the smell was awesome) and than these are not bad either Ritter - Storck - Lindt & Sprüngli |

Marabou for fairly low priced chocolate. Unfortunately it's euro market stuff.

IIRC, hershey's has a lot more sugar, and american palates tend to go for sweeter chocolate. |

Not the best, but best bang for the buck are Dove Chocolates. They are usually surprisingly good for their price. Try one piece of milk chocolate and just let it melt in your mouth. It's the best way to cure a chocolate craving without eating too much. I do run across what I call "bad batches" of doves 10-20% of the time though, and the chocolate is a lower quality, kind of like what would be in a regular Hershey bar. They are not as creamy and can be a little gritty. If I gift them I always feel obliged to sample them first to make sure they are good.
Hershey makes a bliss that is similar to dove. |

I want to prefer Hershey since it is local to me but the pgpr bothers me. Lindt is probably my current favorite.

I love Cadbury, but if you ever get the chance, try Valrhona. A pastry chef I knew turned me on to it. Heaven!
