I don’t think I’ve ever actually held an AUG. They’re cool looking but replace the AR? That’s hilarious.

Yep.  I don't know anybody with an AUG.  I know of at least a hundred ARs.

Everybody seems to love their Augs, but gottttt-dammmm are they ugly guns!  I guess it is like marrying an ugly fat broad - they will be loyal to you and treat you nice because they are happy someone is playing with them.

If Karl had had an M-16 instead of that shitty AUG trigger, he’d have smoked John McClaine.

After braces, they'll be coming for bullpups like the aug. All you bullpup guys who are staying silent, thinking you can hide in the shadows- you better get in your reps ears about braces. You're just the next "loophole" to close. I'm sure a very conveniently timed mass shooting via bullpup will occur, as the braced pistol showed up from the tranny the day before the pistol brace rule vote, and the Vegas shooting right before the hpa was supposed to be voted on.

Bullpups have better terminal ballistics.

It's because the Steyr AUG can be so easily modified to do so many things, as opposed to the AR, which can't.

I could be wrong.

When you see an AR in a movie, it's just a rifle.
When you see an AUG in a movie, it's cool looking.

If Star Wars was released today, you'd see a lot of people buying Sterlings and C96s.
Wonder how many Berreta PX4 rifles were sold because of BSG.  P90s because of Stargate, etc.

Shitty trigger, fumblefuckery mag changes exacerbated by mag release location, gas port position, crappy safety...

Because I like a gun that is cheap, erognomic, and easy to change up.

I can make my gun look like my favorite from a Vietnam movie, 90's Blackhawk Down, or anything modern.

Plus I feel gay holding some hunk of plastic that feels like it belongs in a bad John Travola sci-fi movie.

Is my gun supposed to look this way or did I leave it on the hot dash for too long?

Then you look at pictures of a CAR15 or MK12 and you see what a Steyr AUG isn't.

Plus I hate bullpups but could have said that at the beginning. Unless it's a Walther rifle and I would happily deal with it.

It feels gay handling one of the most reliable 5.56 military rifles ever made?  Steyr AUG >>> AR15

Your argument is severely flawed in assuming that people buying augs is an indication they aren't also buying ARs or prefer an AR or something else over an Aug.

I own an Aug. I also own multiple ARs, as well as other platforms.

I'm fortunate to have the resources to be able to have several different guns and I bought the Aug because of its lineage, and because it's different than the other guns I own.

Hell, when I used to drink soda, I normally drank Coke. But occasionally I'd get something else. That didn't mean I stopped preferring Coke.

I've got a couple AUGs.  Great guns.  I'd still grab an AR over the AUG for serious business.

LOL Op,

The only reason AUG's have sales on any level, is because the AUG that is available is true to form, and pretty close to the AUG of the 80's and the rifles you see in the movies.

IWI could take a hint, and get some Galils out, and FN could do well with some FAL's and FNC's.

So I've been wondering about this.

American's love of the Steyr AUG is evident in sales.

Why do so many choose the AUG over the AR? I can certainly answer this question for myself, but I cannot speak for others.

For me, it's a simple matter of the superior reliability and parts durability, especially in adverse conditions over an AR.

The AR is designed to have parts that are easily replaceable. The AUG is designed so that parts simply do not break. They can last significantly higher round counts than the AR before parts start breaking. You can shoot an AUG over the course of your lifetime without needing to replace anything.

What about you? It's it because you know the AUG is simply a cooler/superior platform?

Soon enough, will the AUG be the new "America's rifle?"

AUGs don’t break?

LOL

I’ll be sure to tell the guy who’s BCG blew out the back of the stock and tore up his winter jacket.

I’ll be sure to call up the Steyr tech I spoke to who basically refused to believe that such a malfunction occurred, and then started moving with haste and adopting an almost frantic “please don’t sue us” tone when I mentioned we had the gun and pictures.

I’ll be sure to tell my boss, who logged out the repair to Steyr, and logged in the brand new gun they sent back.

I don’t think AUGs are bad guns, and would recommend someone buy one.

But to say they don’t break is funny to me.

I don’t know.  I’ve been shooting my PS90 more than my SBR ARs lately.  It’s probably the novelty factor.

Steyr USA  made a total of 1380 AUG's in 2019 per the ATF.  I would guess the AR15 is still the preferred gun of the two.
