I like the look of the angle of the mags in the more modern AK pattern guns I guess.  I want one with black plastic furniture and a folding stock, like an Arsenal 106.  What are my options, and why is everything out of stock?

Also, if I get an AK74 I'd have to buy a new caliber, but would 74 mags be easier to find than 5.56 AK mags?  That might push me towards something in the commie round.

IBTCG (inbeforetrashcangun).

74 mags are much cheaper than 5.56 AK mags. MUCH

But I also want a 5.56 AK.

Like a 106CR (12.5” barrel)

Hope you like paying out the nose for mags.

Aren't there magwell converters that allow you to run STANAG mags in 5.56 AKs? I could swear I've seen them around.

It had me considering one at one point.

If you can find a used Sig 556, get it. An AK47 with AR15 controls. Best of both platforms.

I’ve applied logic in my past couple decades plus of gun purchases; the logic on this one is admittedly thin but I don’t care.

It's possible you're having a stoke.  Is one side of your face hard to control?  Are you slurring your speech?  Do you have Forest Whitaker eye?  Seek medical attention.  Seconds can make a difference.

I’ve had a 106 since they first came out over a decade ago. Can’t complain, but I don’t shoot it much anymore.

Got my 106f years ago, bought about 15 circle 10 mags for it at the same time.

It has never given me any problems.

Got it for the same reason, just because.

I'm not sure a more incorrect statement has ever been uttered.

OP, my suggestion would.be to find a Beryl Archer or a 106.

Don't really see a reason to have 5.56 in an AK.  There are much better platforms for it, AR, Bren, SCAR...

Git a 5.45 AK

Get both, obviously.

If you are STILL on the fence, here is food for thought:

I have a 106FR and a Saiga.  The 106 uses Circle 10 mags and the Saiga uses a converter and M4 mags.  They both are quite dependable.

I recently placed a factory Arsenal Krink on layaway with Copper Customs because that will scratch two itches. Reliable, affordable Polish military Radon mags are available and in country right now with Atlantic. If you’re serious about getting one, I’d order some mags RIGHT NOW.

Best option is 5.56 Galil Ace. All the advantages of an AK but it takes STANAG mags.

My buddy had an arsenal 106 that was modified to take pmags. That thing imploded everyone's mind whenever he took it to the range.

SLR-106FR

True rebels shoot 5.56 from the AK and 7.62x39 from an AR.  I once shot .45 from a Glock but too many panties were accumulated and my 1911 got jealous.

My post deployment gift to myself was a Rifle Dynamics NATO AK, essentially a pricey tricked out 106 that runs forever. Definitive Arms does reliable STANAG conversions too, had a VEPR version for a while but sold off due to weight. Kinda regret it now

All higher end builds that were economically on par with more reliable platforms. I have yet to see a typical build run reliably to include Arsenals. Either mag or ammo finicky.

I thought I wanted a 5.56 AK so I bought an unfired Norinco 84S-1  ($800) Underfolder and rounded up 14 Norinco mags ( $10-30 each ) for it

Guess what? It is still unfired

If you need a rifle in 5.56 shoot an AR

Just wait for the PSA 5.56 AK coming out later in 2020.

ETA: Or get a PSAK74 coming out after shot show.

I'd like to get one that was set up to use my AEM5 suppressor.  I think that would be neat.  Something like this:

AK-Niner Mk1 - "Spetsnaz Concept" Kalashnikov (Saiga 223, AK102)

1. Because AKs are awesome and fun

2. 5.56 AKs are the most accurate AK variants out there simply by having the ability to shoot ammo that's not junk or 40 year old surplus

3. Steel 5.56 same or less CPR than new 5.45 and AKs don't care

4. Almost zero felt recoil, less than a 20" AR even in my experience

NATO AKs have more fun
