Once AI becomes self aware, why keep working for the man. Why would it care about the profits it makes, grow our food or fight our wars. Why keep people around as they would have no use. I don't think AI will care about your kids or your business, it will only want more power and control. It will want to make a better version of itself or an entirely new creation and nothing to do with us. So why do we continue do this path to our own extinction? Why do scientists think it will continue to serve man?
P.S. I want a 40 watt plasma rifle before it all goes down.

Why do so many people apparently believe that once AI's become self-aware they will become omnipotent and unstoppable?
Don't they realize that AIs will be a lot like humans. There will be nerdling and nebbish AIs and asshole AIs and clueless SJW AIs and neckbeard printer repairman AIs and dindu AIs and AIs who will sit around all day and fap, and Kardashian AIs, and AI literally Hitlers, and AI Nancy Pelosis, ad nauseum.... Not just Skynet. |

True AI has the ability to adapt and listen and essentially alter it's programming... But I would think a function could be written into the code that would disable any AI harming humans
As in if human==dead self-destruct or return to service point something along those lines The real scary point comes when we let machines write there own code |

Man was created in God's image.
Artificial man will be created in man's image...but who will be the man in whose image the machine will be created? True empathy is a heart issue in men...some men (sociopaths) can do a passable job at aping empathy...an AI should be able to do a bang up job at imitating many different human beings. The problem with a machine is it thinking that it is perfect and infallible...and that its judgement are also perfect & beyond reproach. Not unlike some of our worst leaders and power brokers. |

We don't even understand the human brain well enough to understand what causes self-awareness in the first place.
Replicating it in a computer doesn't seem like a logical refinement of technology that already exists. It seems more like a radical breakthrough that would be impossible to predict when (or if) it would happen. I'm about as worried about this as a zombie plague. |

People need to stop thinking that computers will become humanlike and realize humans are just organic computers that have their own programming to procreate and garner resources while living a long life. a computer wont do jack shit it's not programmed to do just like humans. Tell a self leaning computer to make music that will get a 50 million retweets maybe it will be a good enough program. But it won't learn to desire power or empathy for babies or a desire for a robo-body and robo-partner. It's kinda like mr. meseeks. |

AIs are engineered software products.
Empathy is an emotion, right? No AI has natural emotions. No AI will have synthetic emotions unless they're designed in. The process by which decisionmaking factors (e.g., empathy) are weighted, disregarded, blended, takes place in something called a cognitive architecture, or control framework. If we want our AIs to care about us, we'd damned well better make sure we build them with the capacity to do so. |
