Bought an 1895 GBL .45-70 Government and probably will never use it to hunt but there it is. You certainly can't plink with these things as a box of ammo runs $30.00 and up. I also own a Springfield trapdoor (1873) The .45-70 may be an oldie but it's a "goodie." View Quote |

Why a 375 Raptor over a 45-70, I don't get that? It's a lever gun. It's the American way, go finger fuck one day, a light will come on. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

I have inherited a Taurus Judge.
I hear you have to shoot from inside the bear so I'm working on that. |

Master race, checking in. I've only shot boring old 300 grain Winchester through this one, though. I wasn't aware that it was safe with the 500+ grain monsters... Is that the case? @Whiskersthecat |

Brenneke Black Magic Magnum's are no slouch at 602 grains/1502 fps at the muzzle. 6+1 in my 870 tactical and I even have the 1895'esque ghost ring sights. Also have the versatility of taking small game with birdshot as well. There is also the Dixie IXL-DGS at 870 grains/1200fps at the muzzle.

The place dealt in antique firearms, primarily Winchester’s. The receiver had been case hardened but the blue on the barrel was original & perfect. So was the wood. $1700, I never will forget. Wish I hadn’t always been so frugal back then... |

I wonder how far off my XS sights would be at, say 50 yards or so with the big Garretts vs the cheapy winchester 300s that it's sighted in for.

If you download Nikon SpotOn as an app, it has a lot of tables for various factory cartridges in there. For 556, 45-70 whatever. It's pretty cool
