No way to know for sure on any of it, but if they are would current ones be grandfathered?

Yes. No. Maybe.

I think the end goal is to ban anything that goes bang.

Why would you think so? I don’t know if I even understand the question.

Is there federal legislation proposing a ban on AR pistols?

I think they learned their lesson last time.  If they ever get enough votes to do anything, it will be no grandfathering, no sun setting.

I ask the question because I just put together my first AR pistol and it just seems to be too good to be true. I can carry essentially a SBR loaded, in my truck, and drive across state lines.

I should say state line, since I am in the tristate area and can be in MD or VA in 10 minutes.

Only on alternate Tuesdays in months without an "R" in them, so long as none of the dates in that week is a prime number, except that when any two of those dates combine to total a factor of three prime numbers, instead of being banned on Tuesdays, they will instead be retroactively banned on the prior Wednesday, except in cases where said prior Wednesday had a date which was an odd number, in which case the banning is moved forwards to the following Thursday.  Now, if the following Thursday's date is *not* a prime number, then the banning is instead moved to the prior Sunday, unless of course that the date of that prior Sunday is a multiple of 3, in which case 17 rabid dachshunds will attack you and eat your flesh.

I do hope that clears things up.

Yes, as soon as they get the votes.  As long as well have welfare, people will move inwards.  As long as they move inwards, they will become more liberal.  As long as they become more liberal, states will turn blue.

if history continues to progress, one thing is a constant-governments disarm their peasants.

My magic 8 ball is in the shop, but I'll do some guessing for you...

IF they decide to try to enact a ban of AR15 pistols and IF they include some kind of grandfathering and IF they have enough votes in both the house and senate and IF the president signs it into law, your gun would be fine.

IF they decide to try to enact a ban of AR15 pistols and IF they don't include some kind of grandfathering and IF they have enough votes in both the house and senate and IF the president signs it into law, you are going to federal PMITA prison.

That said, if anything gets banned in the future I absolutely guarantee there will be no grandfathering.

No grandfathering and no sunsetting. IF the (D) party were to get another ban enacted, there's no way they'll leave that poison pill in there again.

You should the cat's been out of the bag for a long time now on those.  There's really no reason you should be concerned for a ban.

I wouldn't take one loaded into Maryland without a MD carry permit.   Your mileage may vary.

Aren't icky black evil AR pistols outright banned in MD as "Assault Pistols" already?

(unless neutered to fit ban verbiage)

Yeah, that little 20 mile portion of road between VA and WV that doglegs into MD is a real downer.

I'm not, nor would I ever, advocate violating the law; but I will say if .gov did something like that it would be a great way to guarantee a metric shit load of unregistered SBR's in public hands.  I mean, if you're already an outlaw thanks to a pen stroke, who gives a shit about sliding a $30 stock onto your receiver extension at that point?

they won't be banned, as long as you have already installed a bump-fire stock on it.*

My neighbor is a cop, his wife works for the government, I also have a friend who’s friend owns a gunstore and I imagine if I ask them what they thought the chances of AR pistols being banned was they would say “none”.
You can take that for what it’s worth. They could be banned, but they probably won’t.
