It's sort of a standard smear to lump gays in with pedos. There's going to be some overlap, just like with heteros. It reeks of fear-mongering, though.
The trans-rights thing is what is kicking the conversation into high gear lately. If the gay rights groups went away happy with gay marriage, things would be civil. Middle America wasn't ready for the trans issue, and it's going to reinvigorate general anti-gay sentiment. |

Recently conservatives have started taking the line that they're all good so long as they don't have to bake wedding cakes, but they weren't all good before there were weddings to bake cakes for, and they were all good with public accommodation laws for religion and race and gender for 50 years before it became an issue. Age of consent is a line that can be drawn, for sex and trans and everything, people don't mature until their mid-twenties, kids shouldn't be getting elective surgeries or hormones. It doesn't surprise me there's a disparity in teen/adult relations, or other stats like suicide or mental illness given how different existence is for gays, particularly when they aren't accepted. |

I'm on the side of gay people do not prey on kids or teens any more than straight people. But who knows and I would rather give them the benefit of the doubt based on the gay people I know.
Look at it this way. My daughter is in 8th grade. When I sit in the car waiting to pick her up from school I see girls that could easily pass for adults walk by. Biologically, they are old enough to reproduce. Mentally, not even close. We have decided culturally, and rightfully so, that there is an age where we consider people adults. 18 seems to be that number. So, yes, men walk around and see an attractive female and are sexually aroused. Then they find out it's a girl and not a woman and feel dirty about it. Some of those men do not and are sick bastards who need to be dealt with. Goes with men, women, gay, straight, whatever. Some people just need a good killin if they touch a minor. |
