I witnessed my friend shooting his POF today have a kaboom using Frontier ammo. This is the first time I have ever seen this happen in an AR15 type rifle. It blew out the mag and part of the bolt carrier. Luckily no one was hurt.

How'd it get the berries above the twig?  How'd it blow the carrier apart when the bolt is still locked?

Is probably give hornady a call.  Pretty crazy for it to push primers all the way out.

Had a friend that was having a ton of issues with his new Springfield Saint AR-15 and Frontier (but LC branded?) ammo. We're still not sure if it was the rifle, the ammo, or both. Basically had a lot of FTE/FTF issues, blown primers.. primer debris would get stuck in the trigger assembly area and impede trigger function. Charging handle would get stuck and we'd have to use a multi-tool to force the bolt back and eject a chewed up fresh round. Happened every range trip after 2-3 magazines.

I was actually talking to my friend about buying a case of this stuff before his rifle blew up. I am not going to now.

Fucking piston guns.

Not really. Anyway... Hornady is usually higher pressure stuff, especially in a tighter gun.

My LMT MWS pops or partially pops primers in all Hornady stuff.

But ya... not sure what's up with this stuff or gun. Wrong powder? Compressed?

How many rounds through that rifle?  Did you have problems with blown primers with other types of ammo?

I always like to check fired casings when shooting a new batch of ammo.
This is why. I know it is a little paranoid, but it has saved me a few times.

My guess is under 1000 rounds through the rifle and he has never had a blown primer before this.

I wonder if it is due to a loose primer from a previous round up in there. Usually they fall down and jam the trigger.

ETA jeez look at that ejector brass flow. Hot loads and a primer in the wrong place, dunno.

Isn't Frontier Hornady projectiles made at Lake City as a joint venture?

Edit:Here is just one article claiming that. That begs the question of how is Lake City screwing up so bad?

What's the bullet weight? 64+ grain?

I'm thinking out loud but I'm wondering if they accidentally kept the same powder charge for 50 or 55gr projectiles when they switched to heavier projectiles, or alternately, didn't completely clear out the powder dispensers from a switch from fast burning powder to slow burning powder.

I would've expected better from the Lake City plant.

Edit: I just saw your friend's picture you posted. I'm lost with what to think. I have a hundred guesses to the cause, but pressure testing by quality control must be very few and far in between for the Frontier product line.
