Someone with a 3D printer may be able to set themselves up a nice little cottage industry...

This is the 40mm Chalk round.

Scale up and make the rear one piece since you don't need it to be a shell and projectile.

My shooting buddy works for a trash company. A couple weeks in a row, one of their customers had literally filled a dumpster with dildos. eventually, the driver saw someone out there and asked the obvious question. Why? Turns out there was a recall because the dye was leaching out of them and, well, you get the idea. So, he ended up with a (lol) butt load of 'em. We would shoot them out of the can cannon and shoot at em with shotguns, etc. Good times. They didn't fit in the cannon very well, so we used the bottom of a soda can as a "wad", that made 'em fly a lot better.

Based on what was posted earlier, M-18 smoke grenades can be launched, so I would imagine a military-style CS grenade would be no different.

I need to do some testing before another outing.

I'd love to deploy smoke in one, but the fire danger has me a bit concerned.

I fired a couple tennis balls down range in my front yard when I got home from work. (Some of the many benefits of having 1 1/2 acres in the country - a front yard big enough to launch tennis balls from a Can Cannon and neighbors who aren't going to freak out when a guy shots such a thing in his front yard. I love it where I live.)

First impressions? One, it's definitely loud enough to warrant ear protection. Two, it's loud enough that my dog isn't going to want to play fetch with me. Three, tennis balls will travel at least a hundred yards. Four, launching them does do a bit of damage to tennis balls. I'm going to have to replace the dog's fetch balls now.

Oh, and I now have a dedicated purpose for my blue PMAG.

I find it interesting that so few people have done an inverted stock. When you finally get an aiming device, it becomes nearly impossible to shoulder and like down the sights simultaneously without some altered geometry.

That's actually my favorite part of this gun. The beautiful ugliness of functionality.

I called him this evening to pay for the one short barreled upper I was going to keep (returning the other 4), and he asked why I wanted to keep one. When I told him we were all curious about any difference in range between the two versions and I wanted to do an apples to apples comparison he said to just keep it no charge then. We talked for a while and he said he wanted to “donate it to the cause” in exchange for me posting up my results. Needless to say I’m tickled, because I was already going to do that anyway, and had already told him I was going to.

Jeff: you rock Sir!

Side note: a friend I work with thinks he still has some russian 50mm mortar parts (baseplate and legs) laying around somewhere buried in his hoard. If he can dig them up then I might have a start on a 66mm pop mortar.

Or something that will contain just under a 1/4oz of explosive to keep it out of DD territory. What's a reliable contact primer, inverted ramset round? Do incindiary compounds count as explosives? A several oz of sodium palmate and other liquids would be nasty.

Eta: Looks like incindiary is right in the definition. Is liquid an incindiary or are they talking about solids

My replacement cannon arrived today! I can't wait to get it out this weekend. Already trying to come up with a decent yet cheap / easy way to add spring loaded fins (like was posted earlier for the rocket) to a soda can. Also thinking about how to add / pack / protect a bright orange streamer to aid in recover of projectiles that launch out of view. Sooooo many possibilities!

My super cheap stripped lower and lpk from PSA both also arrived today. I don't see how that company turns a profit with their pricing structure

Hmm I wonder how hard that would be to retrofit. Picatinny rail sections are very easy to come by but I'd want to either flatten a spot on the tube or hollow out the back of the rail so they sit flush.

ETA: While it's a great spot for a VFG it looks like it would also be an ideal mounting point for extra-extra-long bipod legs / shooting sticks for the guys looking to make "mortar" style setups!

Maybe you could talk these guys into doing it. They’re reloadable 37mm cases are neat. Uses smokeless powder and a burst disk.

It’ll probably be a turd, but I’m feeling lucky this evening so I rolled the dice.

The reviews seem to state that the buttplate is actually steel instead of aluminum. I’ll get a gunsmith buddy to whip me up a cushy recoil pad for it. Also the straight buffer tube is open ended, so I might just hack it off to whatever length seems right when I get it. Edit: I just noticed it was a shorty when I ordered it. I guess I’ll not be hacking it any shorter!

If it sucks then I’ll start price shopping for that Elf stock. That Elf definitely looks pretty cool, and it’s adjustable.

I got mine at a sportco while just browsing. I was originally going to modify a buffer tube to work 180° with the charging handle. That way you can use normal stocks. Maybe the side charger is the answer?

The reviews seem to state that the buttplate is actually steel instead of aluminum. I’ll get a gunsmith buddy to whip me up a cushy recoil pad for it. Also the straight buffer tube is open ended, so I might just hack it off to whatever length seems right when I get it. Edit: I just noticed it was a shorty when I ordered it. I guess I’ll not be hacking it any shorter!

If it sucks then I’ll start price shopping for that Elf stock. That Elf definitely looks pretty cool, and it’s adjustable.

I’m not sure yet. I’ll eyeball my sight when I get time to get everything together. The sight in that pic is using a regular m203 quadrant sight, but they removed the carry handle clamp and used this adapter to mount it: https://exoticammo.com/products/picatinny-to-picatinny-clamp

I have the m203 sights with the wider spacer for detachable carry handles, so I’m hoping it’ll still stick out far enough that I can use an adapter later. Not sure though.

If it looks like it’ll work I’ll likely order one. I just hate paying $40 for a pretty generic clamp.

Those alumiweld rods are garbage. You’d have enough heat for a long enough duration to both wreck the surrounding finish on the tube and craze/ruin the rest of the anodizing on the rail piece. Just FYI, the cheap $8 sack of Walmart Chinese tennis balls was very disappointing. They’re a bit under-bore, or the durometer of the rubber is wrong so they don’t obdurate (squish wider) in the bore on firing, or maybe just aren’t fuzzy enough to make a decent gas seal. I might have to try name brand Penn balls or something else.

According to tracking, my can cannon is maybe showing up today, two weeks late… but I was at a picnic/shoot with @jrpett last weekend, and we were shooting his. The full size cans went about 100 yards, and the small 8oz Sam’s Choice shorties went about 125 yards. We followed the advice in this thread to load them top-down, and did not have any of them burst on firing.

But the cheap tennis balls I brought were crap, and only went 50-75 yards, max. And they were moving kind of lazily for even the disappointing distance they did fly. They weren’t spinning hard or curving in flight like some of the videos I’ve seen. My understanding is that different Walmarts may have different makes/brands of generic bulk tennis balls, so it’s possible ones from a different Chinese factory will fly better.

But soda can trap shooting with a Saiga 12s and 10 round magazines is a hell of a lot of fun. So much fun, I can easily see building an event just around that alone.

Edit #4: Checked the spacing. The sights will clear easily. Might not even need the wide body spacer that is used on the ones made for detachable carry handles (check that when the adapter gets here).

This is an information dense post.

The only thing you need to be concerned about is if it can look past the tube when held at a minimum of 20º. Anything below that can be done looking over the tube. Mine will clear the can 100% at any angle, but it's far enough away from the tube to make holding it awkward.

my launchers are all pneumatic and sail nerf minivortexi out 75 - 100 yards
but they are designed to be "non" lethal

i have built my own projectiles and the vortex minis are pretty much the standard

i would think the 556 blank launch would tear the fins off though
