I don't dress like either of the examples in the OP. Not that I find anything wrong with it.

I wear a suit 5 days a week and carry a black Kifaru E&E from my vehicle to the office.

On the weekends I dress like a guy who is working around the house or going to the gym. Because that's what I really do. I'm not out larping as a "grey man" for the apocalypse. If the SHTF I have enough gear to put up a fight until I kill or die or can unass the area.

As someone stated earlier. It's more about your body language and how you carry yourself. If you act like an easy target (the second set of pictured examples) and some scumbag decides he's going to do some predatory shit. You're probably going to be directly confronted. If you look like a cop or a wannabe you might get clapped while your back is turned.

Since I'm retired and always working on some home project like remodeling, wrenching, yard work, etc. I always dress like one person here described as a "slob": work jeans, most likely dirty, well worn t-shirt, tank top, etc., work boots or some sort of work style shoe.

LOL at "Dressing like a slob with no self respect"....

Wanna dress like someone who you most likely want to ignore?

Go spend a months paycheck at your local bougie 'outdoor' rock climbing / ski / bike store.  Bonus points if it has "mountain" in the name of the store.  REI is a good 'chain store' example.

Marmot, Kuhl, Patagonia, Prana, North Face, civvy Arcteryx stuff, etc.

All that stuff is high quality clothing that looks nice and performs well, and makes you look like a most-likely centrist-liberal dude who's gonna buy some local artisan sourdough at the farmers market before he takes his Subaru with a "COEXIST" sticker up to the hills and go kayaking to his favorite rock climbing spot this weekend, while staying at a quaint VRBO near a small vineyard with a nice pinot noir and wants to have a nice Sunday brunch at a place with a good hollandaise and deviled quail eggs on the menu.  That guy is ignorable and forgettable.

.

Y’all  are worried about getting outed at Walmart and being shot first when the spetsnaz trained gangsters know to shoot the guy with cargo pants first,  half of y’all are dying of heart disease and sending your kids to public schools.

No one cares. Y’all are the only people noticing. Like a bunch of women comparing purses and shoes.

There are 80 year old women freely walking the streets of Libera worried less about it than many of us do.

Yeah, I can’t say I have seen many anime shirts, even on kids around here.

My town hosts the largest fireworks show west of the Mississippi, that regularly draws a crowd of 125,000+.  I live within bicycle riding distance of the riverwalk greebelt...and there is a hidden spot in my kiddo bike trailer/stroller that fits a PC, Helmet, Carbine and MedKit quite nicely.  Not sure how I'm gonna do that once the kids get old enough to ride their own bikes there...

I used to run sports leagues and basketball referees always held up pinkie-ring-middle for 3, really rubbed off on me. Also I learned to (more or less) accurately count seconds. It was funny hearing some guy scream 'look he's in the lane! 123 123!!'

The only clothing from 5.11 that I own are a couple of belts, which you're not going to see with an untucked t shirt.

But considering that 90% of the people I see have their faces buried in a smartphone I'm not concerned about getting made.

Ok. So you posted a thread about normal people, apparently either in the .MIL or LEO, walking around not trying to "gray out." because I don't see anyone in those pics that's trying to be the "gray man". What are those 1st pics? 5.11 shirt advertisements?

You attempt at an edgy thread is an utter failure and you should feel bad.

Again, where is the happening? Who the fuck and why are people worried about this?

Where are the cases of shootings, where 5.11 guy was gunned down or targeted first because of his clothes?  Point out 5, in all of history.

Almost all shooting in the country are between folks that know each other and gang related. No one got gunned down for being tacticool bro in those situations.

More people were killed in fires last week than were ever shot because they had on cargo pants.  Go check the batteries in your smoke detectors. It will save your life more than not wearing Oakley’s with a crew cut.

Damned purse swinging contest by people that want to know what shirt best matches their carry gun.

I wouldn't compare work wear with being a slob.

I was a commercial fisherman for ten years and was jeans t shirt or cut off cammies and a wife beater in the summer. People who look down their noses at those who work hard are snobs.

Had a Irish girlfriend, in the mid 2000's, one trip I lost my luggage

So off to the shops,   zipper is on the otherwise in Europe

She sorted me out , when ever we traveled throughout Ireland she would do all the talking ( she had the gift of the gab) more ways than one

I could point out Americans , usually loud, haircuts are not euro, lots of jewelry,

Here in florida. Locals dress differently than damn yankee's and snowbirds
I'm a damn yankee, jersey accent and all, I stand out in how I dress and speak. When invited to hang with locals ( very rare) I say very little,

Long hallway in the NATO mx complex leading to the office suite. Commanders (Dutch) secretary sat up close to his office door. She told me she could hear the Americans coming every single time...we walked faster than everyone else on the installation, and didn't stop two or three times to have conversations with everyone we passed.

She would stop me every single time I came into the office to exchange pleasantries. Drove me crazy, but she made a point of it. I was used to "is the boss in? I need to see him." Instead, I got, "How are you this morning. Beautiful, isn't it? I had the most interesting dream last night...". That, and at the morning mx meeting everyone in the whole damn room would shake hands and exchange greetings. As in, all 20 to 25 people. It's like they looked for an excuse to put off getting down to business for as long as possible.

They say that Americans have a characteristic strut/swagger to the way we walk. Our mannerisms/movements are also different.

It kind of is in my experience. The loudness thing of Americans in foreign countries is overplayed in my opinion. Americans are also typically much more polite from what I have seen. I have had many folks comment on that.

But remember we are talking about people who are at a point in their lives and successful enough to travel. Often times this coincides with confidence. God knows we are breeding a whole new generation of feeble, pathetic Americans.

And of course, there are always exceptions.

Yeah, I totally Francised that post up.

But I stand by the point I made, as a pearl clutching dipshit.

I contend that it does not matter and I contend that people cant counter that with data.   No one is getting shot for dressing like 5:11 guy.  It utterly does not affect such a persons safety. Hell, since it does not increase "danger" I would suggest it is positive.  It might keep the government at bay a tad, because cops and other 5:11 bros are the only people that notice. It may cause favorable feelings.
